Thomas Rites Today at Two for Henry P. Thomas 72
Funeral services are set for two o clock at St. Pauls Lutheran Church for Henry P. Thomas 72 who died Tuesday after months of ill health. The Rev H Dorn will officiate with burial in Sidney Greenwood cemetery. The Gehrig Funeral Home is in charge. Survivors include four sons, three daughters, eleven grandchildren, two brothers, four sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr Thomas, a native Nebraskan, lived on a farm near Sidney for many years after moving from Ohiowa and Hubbell.

19 500 Vets Getting Training and Schooling
By end of January 19 511 Nebraska ex GIs were on the Veterans Administration regular subsistence payroll and received checks totaling 1 279 915 dollars to aid in their GI Bill training. VA Nebraska manager Ashley Westmoreland said the January subsistence payments were an all time high since GI education and training began in 1944. In January the VA also paid 503 907 dollars in retroactive payments to student veterans and on the job trainees under the GI Bill.

Bridgeport Farmer Wins Skelly Award for Agriculture
Wayne Harless of Bridgeport will receive the W. G. Skelly Award for Superior Achievement in Agriculture. The 2,960 acre Wheat, beef and pork farm-ranch was started by Royal Harless and now is run by Wayne with help from his wife Etha. The Harlesses attend Bridgeport Baptist Church where Wayne serves as deacon. He sits on the county fair board and directs the soil conservation district, and has led 4-H clubs for three years.
