Mrs Portz 76 Died. Sidney Resident Since 1914
Mrs. Portz, 76, longtime Sidney resident, died Sunday morning in a local hospital. Funeral services are set for Wednesday at The Craig Home for Funerals with Rev. Walter L. Jewett officiating. burial will follow in Sidney Greenwood cemetery. Born December 3, 1870 in Platte City Missouri, she moved with family to Cheyenne County in 1913 and settled in Sidney in 1914, later living in Dalton and Colorado before returning to Sidney in 1928. Surviving are her husband, three sons Verne Howard at home and Glenn of Grand View Washington, and daughter Elsie Kautzky of Council Bluffs Iowa, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. One son Raymond was killed in a 1934 auto accident and daughter Mrs Roy Call died about three years ago.

Steward, previously with John Deere in the region, had been sent to Columbus three years ago. his family will move to Sidney after school. Ellsworth, who came from Yankton South Carolina to replace the late L T Poole, described his plans as indefinite.

The College of Agriculture will provide exhibits plus displays from local agricultural agencies. County businessmen are invited to exhibit merchandise. City auditorium will host the free exhibit from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Goding Farm Sale Scheduled February 19 Near Potter

Cheyenne County 4-H Dryland Toughies team from Dryland Toughies club led by Verlin Livingston won a blue ribbon at the Fanhandle Livestock Conservation Day in Scottsbluff on February 7. Demonstrators Robert Hawkins and Karl Madden presented Sheep Tick Control, among top honors from teams across western Nebraska attended by 90 members and leaders. The group, guests of the Chamber of Commerce, has a history of success including last year's Nebraska State Fair blue ribbon.

John M. Ewing of Gering won the Nebraska Milling and Baking Contest in the Nebraska Wheat Show with a milling and baking score of 87.95 for Cheyenne wheat. Second went to Louis Miller Gurley, with 87.85, and other top scores included C. Edgar Leafdale Potter 87.65 Donald Lex tercamp Dalton 87.55 Louis Wittrock Sidney 87.30. The contest ranked top fifteen entries from Alliance, with Arthur Weinhold first there and sixth here. Cash awards and wall plaque recognized the winners, as scholars explained milling quality factors beyond outward flour appearance.

Potter Colton Fires Call Sidney Fighters
The Sidney fire department responded to two Sunday night calls from out of town but only one fire was found. A Union Pacific section house in Colton sustained extensive damage from an overheated stove before crews controlled the blaze. In Potter, Ray's Texaco Service Station suffered a blaze prompting an initial Sidney call that was canceled before help arrived.

NSES Reports Sioux Ord Job Openings Rise Demand
The Nebraska State Employment Service notes increased unskilled labor demand at the Sioux Ordnance Depot. End January unfilled openings stood at 275 with 151 new orders that month. 62 percent of 151 office contacts were veterans. 461 of contacts were veterans and 70 were women. In-migrant workers numbered 83, housing in FPHA projects. Claims rose slightly to 24, 14 veterans.
