Not All Growers Hit Jackpot In 1946 Wheat Insurance
Nebraska harvested a large wheat crop but only a portion of farmers benefited from indemnities under all risk policies. Over 2,400 Nebraska farmers received payouts covering 170 100 bushels. Drought, hail, flood, rust, wind and insects caused losses across several counties. About 15 percent of insured farmers saw losses, with 17 600 farmers in 67 counties participating in the federal wheat crop insurance program. The program carried liability around five million bushels from seeding to harvest.
