Car Skids On Icy Highway Near Sunol
A 1957 Mercury driven by Beverly E. Thrasher 20 of Carson Iowa slid on an icy stretch two miles west of Sunol on Highway 30 at 12 25 p m Sunday. The car struck a telephone pole and was heavily damaged but the two occupants Mrs Coretta Stauckrath also of Carson and Miss Thrasher escaped injury while returning home from California according to Trooper Del Shipley of the Highway Safety Patrol.

A second crash at 13th and Jackson damaged two cars and the First Christian Church when a 1963 Ford hit a northbound Rambler. Weather contributed to slick roads with several other incidents including a Dodge skidding into a tree on 10th Street and a two car collision in the 13th Avenue underpass.

A steady livestock market at the Sidney Livestock Pavilion last Saturday set the stage for another big special sale next Saturday Feb 8. Dave Truss says 600 head were listed and at least 1 000 are expected by sale time. Last week 300 head sold with feeder pigs up to 14 per head and hogs to 15 15 per cwt. Steer calves sold 23 90 to 27 80, and a 559 pound load fetched 25. Heifer calves ranged from black cows at 140. An active demand for light cattle and cows was noted. Separately, a two day statewide Wheat People and the Plains conference Feb 4 5 at the University of Nebraska Center for Continuing Education will brief leaders on wheat problems and policy. Participants may attend either day, with emphasis on understanding issues facing Great Plains wheat.
