Nebraska farm leaders will air opinions on federal subsidies in a national program Sunday Feb 8 at 9 p.m. on NET stations with audience voting via computer. The Advocates will question if Congress should cap payments at 20 000 per farm and feature farm groups and service agencies.

Nebraska bus lines including Greyhound and Continental Trailways will raise intrastate passenger fares by 10 percent. The increase takes effect February 16 after a filing by the National Bus Traffic Association on behalf of member carriers. The State Railway Commission reported the action covers trips within Nebraska. The association represents most state bus lines.
A public seminar planned for Thursday Feb 5 by Unit 19 County Sept I A Caldwell and County Clerk Ralph Englert covers election procedures state education units and services. Sessions include Beermann Chrk and local officials with talks on mental retardation services speech and hearing health and unit activities followed by group discussions at Sidney High School and Cheyenne County courthouse.
Cheyenne County ASC begins the 1970 wheat and feed grain signup on an appointment basis. About 900 of 1,350 wheat and 1,000 feed grain farms in the county are expected to participate, controlling over 95 percent of operations. Signups run Feb 2 to March 20 with various options including substitution and diversion provisions. Farms not participating lose price support loans and payments but may still produce crops.
Oil finds near Dix in Kimball and Morrill counties spark speculation of a new producing region as Sundance Oil Co. reports three strong wells with high output. In Sidney, Phil Curtiss to lead the bank's installment loan dept ahead of Jamie Haworth's move to Nebraska City, bringing local ties and farming background to the role.
Robert D. Thompson 22 of Kansas City Kansas was arraigned in Deuel County court and waived preliminary hearing on armed robbery charges. He is held at Deuel County Jail awaiting district court. Thompson is accused of robbing Virgo's Tavern in Big Springs just after noon Thursday, taken into custody an hour later by Nebraska State Patrol troopers near Sidney.
Philomena Mika 84 of Lodgepole died at Memorial Rest Home after nine years as a resident. Born Nov 8 1885 in St Louis to Jacob and wife, she moved to Maryville and Lodgepole in 1916. She married William Mika in 1916. he died in 1961. Survived by daughters Minnie Henzl Florence Olson and Helen Smith all of Sidney, plus 21 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements pending.
Bob Horner is the new manager at The L. A. Foster Lumber Co. He recently moved to Sidney with his wife from Imperial where he managed Krotter Lumber Co. Horner, a native Nebraskan born in Friend, has worked in the lumber business since June 1 1931. The Horner family has three children and lives at 2645 Monte Vista Road.
