Cheyenne County residents will gain about $256000 annually from newly approved Social Security measures. Average payments rise from $991 to about $1140 per recipient, with totals reaching roughly $1.96 million for the year, and first checks arriving in April.
Local guitarist Arden Fennell leaves for New York to promote his record Baby with manager Norman Petty. He meets the recording company president Loren Becker and appears on two east coast TV shows. Fireballs provide backing. the B side Smile A Little Smart is by Fennell. Evolution label, Dundee Music publishing, and Dynamic Duo partnership feature in this career push spanning five weeks with Chicago stop and earlier Las Vegas engagements. Fennell, a Sidney resident and Sterling native, studied at Northeastern Junior College Colorado State University and the New York Musical Theatre Academy.
The Sidney Jaycees host Bosses Night and Awards Banquet at Yendis Cafe with a 6 p.m. prime rib dinner followed by an awards meeting. Lloyd Carr, president of the Senior Chamber, will speak. Awards include Boss of the Year Business of the Year Silver Key Bronze Key and Distinguished Service. Members urged to attend with employers.
Don Himes an longtime Egging Company accountant in Sidney has accepted a position with Hanson, Fuenn ing, Risky and Erb Certified Public Accountants in North Platte and will start next week. Mrs Himes manages the Mor Valu Stamp Store in Sidney and will join him after a replacement is found. He arrived in Sidney 17 years ago working for Milton Anderson and the city accounting office before joining Egging.
A Thursday seminar on schools and elections is open to the public in part. The 1 p.m. meeting at the district courtroom features Allen Beermann and Ralph Englert discussing elections procedures. An evening program limited to school board members includes a 6 p.m. dinner and workshops in Sidney.
Benny Hochman will speak at the Governor's Prayer Breakfast in Pierre on February 12. He will share his life story From Hell To Here detailing youth in Poland and survival of Auschwitz and Buchenwald as he travels from Feb 11 to 12. Hochman, longtime N.W. Bell employee, is noted for community service in Sid ney.

Western Nebraska unit chambers of commerce convene in Alliance with Art Moss of Grand Junction Colorado to discuss Club 20 program and WMCC incorporation. Directors meet at 3 p m Elks Club with social hour at 5 30 p m and dinner at 6 30 p m.
Sidney Volunteer Fire Department responded to a Monday 12:55 p.m. call at 1506 Dodge. A 1963 car owned by Harry Gallentine caught fire causing about $600 in damage. Three firemen attended the scene.
The Lorenzo Grade School 27 pupils raised a record 190.83 dollars for the March of Dimes and presented it to Nebraska co chair P. J. Heaton on Tuesday morning. The photo shows students and helpers with the donor amount noted. See page 2 for details.
Congressman Dave Martin announced federal funds totaling 7750 from the Interior Bureau of Outdoor Recreation to acquire 28 acres along Lodge Pole Creek in Sidney. The land will form a green belt with fishing hiking nature study biking and picnicking opportunities and 12 acres may later expand the city golf course. The project was applied for through the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
Earl V. Lessig of Gurley seeks the Lions International District 38N governorship facing opponent Zeke Saci of North Platte. The district meeting is next Sunday at Chadron with wives’ entertainment at Chuckwagon Cafe.
Dalton resident Clemens Francis Kreager died Tuesday at Memorial Hospital after a prolonged illness. Funeral and burial will be in Duluth, with remains shipped by plane. Survived by his widow Ida Childs and three sons, six grandchildren, and brothers. memorials to Dalton Rescue Unit.
Cheyenne County Sheriff Kermit Brumbaugh reports several thefts under investigation. Sometime Sunday six hub caps were stolen from a new pickup parked in Potter. Monday night $175 worth of old pipe bread protectors were stolen from an oil well. The owner of the pickup is unnamed.
Robert J. Ommen of Lodgepole filed for the District 4-1 board of education seeking a four year term. Cheyenne County Clerk Ralph Englert noted March 13 as the filing deadline and encouraged filings with city or town clerks.
Registration for the second semester adult education classes will be held in Cheyenne County High School offices on February 10 and 11 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. New courses include Driver Training and Typing, plus gardening, interior design, woodworking, shorthand, cake decorating, sewing, German, golf, and more. The Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce board accepted J. Hammond McNish’s resignation. Ed Haupt was named to fill the term.
