Major Edward Fonda, longtime Sioux Ordnance Depot officer and public information chief, will transfer to Far Eastern duty on March 1 after more than two years at Sioux Depot. A 20 year Army veteran, he has served in Japan during World War II and held posts including depot inspector and legal assistance officer. His wife will remain in Sidney through the school term. their daughter Mary is a Sidney High School senior and son John serves in the U.S. Air Corps.

Rev Tyner Dead Former Sidney Pastor At 84
The Rev John L Tyner former pastor of the First Christian Church Sidney died December 23 in El Cajon California at age 84. He had been seriously ill for months and was buried in Indianapolis. He served Sidney from November 1935 to April 1938. his wife died in 1947. His daughter Betty Jane of Long Beach reported the death.

Lee Girardot, head conservationist for Cheyenne County Rail Conservation District, reported at the annual supervisors meeting in Lincoln that Western Nebraska and delegations from Kimball Banner Scottsbluff Morrill Garden counties were well represented. Nebraska is now fully organized in soil conservation with Perkins and Mor rill counties fully organized, ninth state to complete the program. The goal since the first district in Washington County ten years ago is reached, with the next aim to have all farms and ranches in Nebraska under a conservation plan.

Nativity Display Draws Visitors From Many States
The Wickards at Highway 30 near Lodgepole report 2300 registered visitors by Wednesday and thousands more viewing the life sized Nativity scene from the highway. The display runs until New Year’s Eve with coffee offered inside. People traveled from Pennsylvania Texas Oklahoma and other distant states after hearing of the exhibit via radio and newspapers. Mrs Wickard built all figures and lit the scene with a neighbor’s floodlight and added natural trees for color.
