The Sidney-Gering line will be energized at 33 kilovolts this week with plans to convert to 115 kilovolts by July 1950 when the Sidney substation is ready. The project under the Missouri River Basin plan aims to boost power to Sidney and surrounding towns and support Army needs at Sioux Ordnance Depot, with firm power priced around 7 mills per kilowatt hour for about half the year.

50 Auto Plates On Sale Jan 3rd
Motor Vehicle owners may obtain their 1950 registration and license plates beginning Tuesday morning January 3. Owen J. Boyles, director of the motor vehicle division, says each county has its supply. Fees changed for 1950 licensing. Mail applicants should check the previous registration to confirm the factory shipping weight of the passenger car. If under 2,600 pounds the annual fee is six dollars. if over 2,600 pounds the fee is eight dollars.

Mrs. John Livoni, 58, longtime Sidney resident and Suvux Ordnance Depot hospital employee, died after a Sunday Christmas weekend trip ended when her car left Highway 36 near Sidney. Nebraska has collected 82,360 this year from ten year leases on 125,230 acres of state owned school land. Bartling reports the state averages about 66 cents per acre with lessees paying from 25 cents to 7.25 per acre for Cheyenne County parcels. No oil has been struck yet but the board will take one eighth of oil revenues. Revenue supports the temporary school fund and investments fund the permanent school fund. A January 6 auction covers 11.5 sections in Cheyenne County. If a drill strikes, Nebraska could gain sizeable revenue. the state holds a one eighth interest.
