Chappell Boys Die In Cabin Tragedy At Oshkosh
Two Chappell youths, Pvt Vernon Thiemann eighteen and Darrel Wickum seventeen, died of suffocation in a cabin at Oshkosh. A gas heater burned intensely, using up cabin oxygen. Bodies found Sunday morning. investigation by Garden County officials deemed the cause settled.

Lighting Contest Winners Selected
Winners of the Christmas Lighting contest sponsored annually by the Sidney Junior Chamber of Commerce were announced this week by Bill Heinlein. The best interior lighting trophy went to Mr. and Mrs. Carl Libsack of 1744 Newton, with second place to Mr. and Mrs. Emil Tank of 1428 King. The exterior lighting trophy was won by Mr. and Mrs. John Frerichs of 1740 10th, with second place to Mr. and Mrs. Leon Karnik of 1340 19th.

Sidney man killed in triple murder and suicide
Mercer “Shorty” Johnson, 19, a N Bell Telephone cable splicer with Sidney assignments, is identified among three victims of a family massacre near Grand Island. Authorities say D H Johnson, 55, killed his wife Lucille 51 and father-in-law C W Mercer before taking his own life with a sawed off shotgun. The bodies were found by the couple’s son-in-law and daughter. Mr Johnson was a Union Pacific conductor.

Oil Men See Cruise No 1 Gas Well as Commercial Prospect
