Training School Opens With Strong First-Year Milestone

The Sidney Occupational Training Center marked its first year with robust enrollment and high completion rates. 122 students started December 1964, 77 percent completed or neared completion, and 114 remained enrolled as expansion plans projected 200 to 265 students.

County Bond Sales Miss 1965 Goal in November Totals

Eleven months of US savings bonds in Cheyenne county reached 63.8 percent of the 1965 target with November sales at 55,991 and county total at 730,214. Nebraska statewide through November stood at 81.5 percent of the 1965 goal with 64,006,037. Region 16 counties show Band Ner, Scotts Bluff, Garden, Morrill, Cheyenne, Deuel, and Kimball with varying percentages, totaling 2,708,652 and 70.8 percent for the region.

Damage Heavy In Collision At Lodgepole

A two car crash at an icy Lodgepole intersection Sunday afternoon left Doyle F. Kripal injured with head lacerations treated at Memorial Hospital in Sidney before release. Trooper Robert Cook said the 2:45 p.m. collision by the Catholic Church involved a 1966 Chevelle driven by Kripal and a 1965 Pontiac GTO driven by Eston J. Hixon. Damages were about 1500 dollars to the Chevelle and 1250 dollars to the Pontiac.

Sidney High marching band heads to Pasadena for Tournament of Roses

California awaits as 171 member Tournament of Roses contingent departs Monday night at eight for Pasadena. Most of the 137 Sidney High School band members and officials load four Continental Trailways Silver Eagles early this morning, bundled in parkas and mittens with instruments and luggage.

City Council Considers Rural Zoning Ordinance Vote

The Sidney City Council will vote on the rural zoning ordinance at tonight's regular meeting. The agenda also includes bids for new police cars, a lease on the old library, and a resolution to use state funds for road projects as well as a UPRR lease for a water main on Hickory Street.

Christmas Snow Delights Cheyenne County

A white Christmas brought 3 to 6 inches of snow across Cheyenne County causing cautious driving and light traffic delays. No fatalities or major accidents were reported amid cold, sunny conditions and variable temperatures from Thursday to Monday. Observers in Dalton Potter and Gurley reported 4 to 6 inches with low moisture and dry, powdery snow.

Xmas Cage Tourney At Lorenzo High Opens Week

A Christmas basketball tournament at Lorenzo High opens Tuesday night with finals set Thursday in the Lorenzo gym. Tuesday features Lorenzo vs Brule at 6 30 p m and Gurley vs Sunol. Thursday action starts at 6 30 p m with the losers’ game followed by the winners’ clash.

Rites Held For Rev Charles Strandberg in Potter

Services for Charles August Strandberg 88 of Sharon Springs Kansas were held at Potter First Lutheran Church with Rev Paul Reimers officiating. Burial followed in Potter Cemetery. Born in Sweden March 28 1877 he was an ordained minister of the Augustana Lutheran Church, ordained in Rock Island Illinois. He married Edith Fredrickson June 20 1920 and had children Ed Youngquist Verne Johnson Paul Strandberg and Philip Strandberg nine grandchildren survive. He served Berea Lutheran Church Chappell in 1923 among other assignments. Pallbearers were Carl Johnson Verner Johnson Lennert Johnson Alfred Strandberg Clarence Strandberg and Fred Elmquist. Local arrangements were by Craig Mortuary.
