Lloyd Castner of Sidney has been selected as administrative assistant to Eugene Oregon City Manager James Finlayson. He will begin Jan 2 and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Castner of Sidney. He graduated Sidney High in 1953 and earned a Business Administration degree from the University of Nebraska last June. He fulfilled military duties including six months active service and a five year reserve commitment with two weeks active duty annually.

Two More Farm Thefts Are Reported
Sheriff's officers reported two more farm break ins over the holidays. A window was broken in a quonset building on the Leonard Courtney place southwest of Dalton to gain entry, with gasoline taken in a second visit. Entrance to a garage north of Potter owned by Elizabeth Wood was gained by breaking the door lock. value of items taken could not be estimated as the family was away on vacation.

Sterling Man Dies of Heart Attack at 59
Albert M. Mack Smith, 59, died early yesterday in a Sterling hospital after a heart attack at his home 215 N Third Ave. He lived in Peetz 1909 19 and Lorenzo 1919 27 where he ran a grocery. A WW II era worker at Sioux Ordnance Depot he later joined Litch Bros Radio TV in Sterling as a partner. Funeral Monday 2 pm at First Christian Church Sterling with Jackson Mortuary directing. He was born December 8 1898 in Pilgrim's Rest South Africa and married Katherine H Pilger August 18 1926 in Sterling. Mrs Smith and his mother Mrs May Smith survive him.

Four Towns Fire Crews Battle Haystack Fire Near Scottsbluff
Firefighters from Melbeta Minatare Gering and Scottsbluff along with county highway workers fought a 444 hour blaze on the Ed Goll farm six miles east and one south of Scottsbluff. Two highway workers used a motor grader to smash and scatter the burning baled hay.

One Man Riot at Cheyenne County Jail
In Cheyenne County Jail an inmate Vernon Page aged 18 led a one man riot Monday evening. Deputy Morris and Sheriff Schulz subdued him after he wrecked benches and cots. He later staged another disturbance, flooded the courthouse basement, wrecked bedding and attempted to escape. He calmed and was returned to bar cells under Deputy Morris, with arson charges possible. Page had been fined 100 dollars and jailed previously for joyriding in District Court.

Wanted Man Found Jailed At Bridgeport
Local officers learned that Jack Lee Tapp alias Otis Harper of Oshkosh is held in Morvill County jail at Bridgeport on a check charge. Deputies Morris and Brumbaugh checked the matter as a warrant exists in the county. Brumbaugh said Tapp was very cooperative and discussed unsolved check matters. Cheyenne and Logan counties will place old orders on him to pursue further charges after the Bridgeport hearing.

Former Sidney beauty shop owner dies in California
Mrs. Denton Paul formerly Ruby Furer, who ran a Sidney beauty shop for about 30 years, died of a heart attack at her Garden Grove home. She lived in Sidney 40 years, then moved to Denver and California. Survivors include a son Edward, two daughters Betty Ann Towner and Margaret Jane Beyer, three grandchildren, a brother John David, and sisters Margar et Hayward and Dan The bald. Funeral arrangements pending.
