Early settler William Rohde dies at 89 in Gurley
William Rohde 89 a Gurley Nebraska resident and former Dodge County farmer died in a local hospital after a two month illness. Born October 11 1865 in Germany he immigrated to Illinois then moved to Dodge County before settling in Cheyenne County. He married Margaretha Engel in 1893 and had four children George Chris and Mrs Emma Engel. Surviving are George Chris and Emma. his wife and son Henry preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at Gehrig and Son Funeral Home and Grace Lutheran Church Gurley with burial at Greenwood Cemetery Donations may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church fund in lieu of flowers.

John F Carlson 79 Dies After Six Month Illness
John F Carlson aged 79 died Christmas night at a local hospital after a six month illness. Born in Sweden June 30 1875 he moved to Schuyler Nebraska at 17 then to Potter where he farmed. He married Sarah Willis August 12 1899 and had 14 children. Surviving are 10 children and many grandchildren across multiple states. Funeral from Gehrig and Son on Wednesday at 2 pm with Jehovahs Witness officiant Ivan Boefe. Burial Greenwood Cemetery.

Word reached Sidney of the death of Emmons Holland Sanders, 80, of Long Beach California. Born in Fairfield Iowa he moved to Long Beach about 18 years ago. Sanders was an oldtimer in Sidney and leaves two sisters Mrs Julia Moore and Mrs Sadie Erickson both of Sidney.

About 8,800 motor vehicle tax notices begin hitting Cheyenne County residents Wednesday, said Assessor Roy Gish. Notices and post year payments help secure new license plates, which go on sale at the courthouse January 3.
