Ancient German Christmas scene carried by Potter families

A Cheyenne County tradition dating to early 1900s started by Mrs. C G Gemeinhardt depicts a Nativity village with miniature figures placed in sand. Descendants across seven families, now in Cheyenne County, keep the display alive with animals and tiny houses, some with real wool and feathered geese, creating a wintry village under the tree.

Christmas Displays Span Generations In Several Families

The article describes multiple families continuing a Christmas scene tradition with wax figures, ice pond mirrors, and carved figures. Mrs Feihler, Mrs Mueller, Mrs Boenhke, and Mrs Wilson preserve heirlooms and create elaborate displays. Tom Mueller and Greg and Eric Wilson contribute, while Leona Gemeinhardt bakes cookies instead. The Denver window decorations inspire a New York executive, and the scenes originated in Germany seven years ago during Army postings.
