Bedspring Christmas Trees Show Potter Man's Hobby

Potter resident Reye Gunderson an 82-year-old former blacksmith creates bedspring Christmas trees and related metal pieces. He began four years ago for Dorothy Nelson and now crafts three-foot and table models plus railings and a spiral plant holder. He finds joy in the craft, notes it as a hobby not a money venture, and displays a tree at Bud's Potter Cafe while taking occasional orders.

Christmas greetings from Sidney and local businesses

The Telegraph publishes annual Christmas greeting messages from regional businesses and professionals thanking readers for support. Sidney stores plan late hours until 8 30 p m tonight and Thursday to accommodate shopping before Christmas. Most stores close 4 30 p m Friday and remain closed Saturday Christmas Day. Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce Office also closes all day Friday.

WIFE organizes to boost farm prices in midwest meeting

About 50 women in WIFE formed an ally group during a second meeting to improve farm prices. A nominating committee was set to list candidates for office and the steering committee from the first meeting was approved to draft bylaws and a constitution. Support from farmers and businessmen was reported as they described activity over the past week, including letters to President-elect Carter and Agriculture Secretary Bergland.

Holidays Begin As Schools Close For Break In Area

Area schools began Christmas vacation with most students out today. Some exceptions include Sidney St. Patrick's which dismissed Tuesday and Western Nebraska Technical College which finishes its first semester Thursday at 3 15 p.m. Cheyenne County Supt. Caldwell said rural schools may stay in session Thursday. Most schools reconvene January 3 with WNTC second semester starting January 10 and registration.

Duffy motorcycle drive is a Christmas gift

Don Duffy, a paraplegic, will receive a new motorcycle after a fundraising drive led by R W Brown. A total of 761.85 was raised, enough to cover about 675 for the bike plus costs to attach a cart. Maddox Motors will donate labor to connect the cart. Duffy’s dachshund Herman often rides with him.
