First Minuteman Silo Liner Eased Into Place Milestone

The first silo liner for the Warren Minuteman site was lowered into a 15 foot hole at Site A-8, 12 miles west and six north of Pine Bluffs. The 36 ton steel liner required three cranes and two hours to set, part of a project spanning 200 missile sites. Cement will secure the liner to within a two inch plumb as preparations continue.

Robert Harper of Denver, a Sidney native and insurance executive, leads the Bob Harper shows at the Federal Correctional Institution west of Englewood. He recruits talent, emcees, and works with the South Denver Kiwanis Club to fund college parolee education, library expansion, and craft needs while inmates attend performances and rehearsals.

Amahl Musical Drama Set for Sidney and Chappell

The Christmas tale Amahl and the Night Visitors will be staged in Chappell at 7 30 p m Thursday Dec 27 in the high school auditorium and in Sidney at 7 30 p m Friday Dec 28 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Cast includes Mary Kay Carlson as Amahl and Vernon McKune as his mother with several local shepherds pages and dancers. A different Chappell cast will perform. proceeds are a free will offering with social hour and coffee after in Sidney. The story follows a crippled shepherd boy whose miraculous gift changes his life as three kings visit.

Weekend Wind Brings Cold Temperature Dive

The mild spell gave way to a temperature drop Friday night reaching 22 degrees by Saturday morning. A blustery wind then pushed the temperature down with a 40 mph high and gusts up to 55 mph around 10 a.m. Saturday before easing later.

Walters And Son consign to show at 1963 National Stock Show

C L Walters & Son of Sidney consign 130 bulls and 25 females to the Hereford sale at the Denver event. The sale on January 15 features top-quality cattle judged January 13 with breeders from 16 states expected to attend. Rural Youth Institute At Hastings Sees 200 Nebraska Members

More than two hundred Rural Youth members from across Nebraska will attend the Mid Winter Institute in Hastings on February 12, 1963. John Orr of the University of Nebraska explains the Rural Youth group serves single young adults aged 17 to 30 in a state extension program. The theme Focus on Youth will guide discussions on moral aesthetic social and occupational values. J. E. Poquette 78 Dies in Connecticut Funeral Planned

J. E. Poquette, 78, longtime Sidney resident, died at his daughter’s home in West Hartford, Connecticut. Funeral services are set for Saturday at 2 p.m. in the First Methodist Church with Rev. John Stayton officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery with graveside Masonic rites. Craig Mortuary handles arrangements. A full obituary will follow in The Telegraph after the family arrives in Sidney.

Rites Today For Kenneth Walkinshaw

Services for Kenneth Lee Walkinshaw 35 will be at 2 p.m. at First Methodist Church with Rev. John E Stayton officiating. Burial at Greenwood Cemetery. Survivors include wife Jessie Pearl and daughter Francis Lee plus three sisters and two brothers. He died after a 13 hour heart operation in Denver.

The Sidney High School Band Parents sponsor a post Christmas dance at the National Guard Armory on Saturday December 29 from 9 pm to 1 am. The Sidney High Stage Band debuts with 15 students under Ron Riedeer directed by Sid Phelps. Admission is 1 button, tickets from band members or at the door. Proceeds aid the band's Mexico City trip for the Fourth of July celebration featuring the band.

Potter Man Aboard Frontier Flight Crashes at Grand Island

Ray Davis of Potter was among 40 passengers on the Frontier Convair that crashed near Grand Island Friday night. He was en route to Scottsbluff from Lincoln after attending a State ASC Board meeting. Mrs. Davis said he had bruises and scratches but survived. others were not seriously hurt.
