Nebraska hunters hail 1955 duck season as one of best in years

The 1955 duck season closed Wednesday after a harsh cold spell. Hunters say they killed far more ducks and geese than in recent years, with goose hunting strong along the North Platte River and adjacent meadows near Garden County. Ice on Armistice Day and subsequent slush hindered hunts, many decoys lost to rising water, and some hunters lacked access to blinds as rivers rose at minutes. Some push for an open season to Jan 1 next year, but locals mostly pleased with the season that began in October and included pheasant shooting.
