Sidney Highs first Rotary exchange student to Argentina Bruce Blanchard arrived home after a year in Cordoba with many misadventures. He navigated unconfirmed stops in Panama and Mexico, rerouted to Miami, repacked luggage, and finally met his parents in Dallas after a month abroad. Bruce learned Spanish, finished his diploma, and hopes to study music or a related field in Nebraska to aid his year abroad.

Schepker To Appear In Court Monday
Harold William Schepker, linked to the November 24 incident against County Attorney John Peetz Jr. and Deputy Don Tedesco, will be arraigned in district court next Monday. The charges have been amended from assault with intent to murder to four counts including assault and battery and carrying a concealed weapon. Bond is $3000. Kimball County Attorney Thomas Brower will supervise with P J Heaton Jr. as defense counsel. Schepker, then in Cheyenne County jail, had daytime work release and allegedly drew a revolver during the incident but was disarmed before harm.

Air Taxi Service Starts at McCook Airport
Frontier Airlines begins an air taxi link from McCook to connect local travelers with Frontier jet prop flights via North Platte Nebraska. The service runs through May 31 1966 while McCook Municipal airport undergoes construction to handle faster jet prop service. Frontier will keep one daily round trip at McCook in addition to the new taxi service.

Mintken to Join State Tax Staff
Cheyenne County Assessor Lloyd Mintken, in office three years, resigned effective March 1 1965. He will join the State Tax Commissioner’s Lincoln office in a supervisory role, continue living in Sidney, and an acting county assessor will be appointed to complete Mintken’s term through 1966.

Jerry Kallhoff of Cheyenne County with years in insurance is named State Farm district manager and will start in Chadron Jan 2. His family will join after selling their Sidney house and securing Chadron housing. A Korean War veteran, he began in insurance after discharge, working for Ray Graff in Dalton, then owning that firm before moving to Sidney with Ralph Welch.

Oil drill activity expands in Cheyenne Banner Scotts Bluff counties
In the week’s oil news three new producers began in Cheyenne, Banner, and Scotts Bluff counties. Starco-Burke and Burns completed No. 1 Anderson in Filon Field Cheyenne, Pan-Am drilled No. 33 Harrisburg in Harrisburg Field Banner, and No. 1 Joe Pattison started production in Canal Field Scotts Bluff. Two Cheyenne wildcats, No. 1 Market and No. 1 Jurgens, are under way at 2000 and 1800 feet respectively, while three Cheyenne wells were plugged this week.

Viaduct To Be Two Way Until Jan 10
The Highway 30 viaduct east of Sidney will be open to two way traffic today and remain so until January 10 when work begins on the east side and it reverts to one way. West side work is done with a temporary guard rail installed and lights added for safety. The project widens the roadway from 23 to 28 feet and repairs abutments as the viaduct serves traffic routing to the new Interstate 80.

District Judge John H. Kuns heard Friday and Tuesday sessions on local matters. Howard Hooker of Scottsbluff faced 30 days in county jail for writing no account checks and will return to Scotts Bluff County on release. Dallas Langley paid 35 dollars fine and costs for reckless driving after a nolo contendere plea. James Deaver received one year probation and a 100 dollar fine for first offense driving while intoxicated on a nolo contendere plea. Justin Fourhorn pleaded not guilty to nonpayment of child support. trial date not yet set.

Christmas Parade In The 1966 Retail Promotion Plan
Albert Grage of Sidney dies at 67 from a heart attack. He lived in Sidney-Cheyenne area 48 years, worked for Union Pacific, and belonged to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Survivors include a daughter, son, three sisters, one brother, and five grandchildren. The retail committee of the Chamber of Commerce reorganizes, naming Bill Peterson chair and Ed Haupt vice chair. A 1966 holiday plan introduces a Christmas parade and a yearlong calendar of themed promotions and store closings, starting with Christmas promotion and parade December 26.

Car Wrecked In Monday Upset Near Lorenzo
A 1956 Chevrolet driven by Richard L. Glassburn, 17, veered into a borrow pit after passing a parked 1959 Mercury driven by Mrs Karl Madden on a county road west of Lorenzo. Glassburn suffered head lacerations and a leg injury. his car was a total loss.
