Cheyenne County Wheat Harvest Outlook In 1955
Cheyenne County estimates 1955 winter wheat output at seven million bushels, up from 5 million in 1954, amid more acres planted and many farmers staying out of compliance. The USDA projects a national winter wheat crop around 679 million bushels, with Nebraska at 74.15 million. Over 900 million bushels may be harvested in 1955, likely meeting market demand, if forecasts hold.

Oil and Gas Conservation Tops Unicameral Agenda
Nebraska legislators expect oil and gas rules to dominate the 1955 session. Senator A A Fenske of Sunol is viewed as the key figure, balancing conservation and wildcatting needs. Industry leaders seek statewide rate oversight and possible changes to governing bodies, with talks of a severance tax and new public utilities supervision. The article notes Fenske’s cautious approach and broad industry support for careful, well considered legislation.

Hotel Loan Efforts Under Way for 67-Room Sidney Hotel
Efforts proceed on the East Coast to secure a $225,000 loan for a 67 room hotel in Sidney. Fidelity Agency of Denver would back the loan within 90 days, with a $4,500 fee if approved. If not secured, the corporation owes nothing. The deal limits interest to 5 percent, allows a 20 year repayment, and permits principal prepayment after five years without penalty. The contract grants the board full local control over funds and bids, with Fidelity able to back subcontractors. A board meeting is anticipated to decide on next steps and bids already received, which peak around $298,000.
