A nationwide study by Standard Rate and Data Service shows Cheyenne County families have more cars per household than the national average. At year start 182 cars per 100 families, versus 121 nationally, with about 32 percent of local families owning more than one car. The trend reflects rising incomes and a shift toward two-car households amid strong auto sales and economic health.

Vacant Hand Farm Home Destroyed By Fire
Fire consumed a vacant home on the Les Hand farm six miles south of Sidney Friday night. Fire Chief Harvey Vizina said the unknown cause may be an electrical short. The loss is total with $2500 coverage. Firemen fought the blaze from 9 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. The house, unused for years, stood near occupied Hand family homes.

Breakin Hits Lodgepole Again at Elmer's Tavern
Elmer's Tavern on Highway 30 in Lodgepole was robbed last night, with about 200 dollars stolen and significant damage to the front door and fixtures. Owners Elmer and Mrs. Phelps report this is the eighth or ninth breakin at their location in 11 years, and the fifth in Lodgepole in three months. Deputy Sheriff Kermit Brumbaugh is handling the case as other breakins have occurred at local businesses.

Byron Bills, son of Mr and Mrs Roy Bills of Lodgepole, has been named Petty Officer of the Month for November while stationed with Squadron 3 at U S Naval Auxiliary Air Station Whiting Field Milton Florida. The award recognizes initiative perseverance and devotion to duty and reflects credit on the squadron and the navy. Byron has served about six years in the navy.
