A Tuesday night low of fifteen below zero at the airport and thirteen below in Sidney set a season record in western Nebraska. The cold eased after midnight as moon eclipse conditions and clear skies persisted. Snow and ice snarled pedestrians and drivers while trains generally stayed on schedule despite subzero winds.
Dick Davis formerly co publisher at The Telegraph until last May, departs for Minneapolis to handle advertising for The Carpenter Panel Co. The move follows his recent Omaha sales role with the same firm after leaving Sidney last summer. He previously spent years on the road for the company.

Barker Cleaners will be closed from December 25 to January 2 for extensive redecoration. Dry cleaning received at the plant on or after Wednesday of this week will not be cleaned or returned until January 5.

TERRASEA S state winner in the 1945 4-H Tractor Maintenance award program is Verlin Walter Livingston, 20, of Sidney. He earned an all expense trip to the 1945 National 4-H Congress in Chicago, provided by Standard Oil of Indiana. Livingston has eight years of club work, organized tractor clubs, and maintained his own tractor. His projects yielded $8,580.64, and he serves as club leader and county H Council vice president.
The Telegraph presents a free morning cartoon program for children at the Jax Theatre this Saturday starting at 10 o clock. Elmer Haines of The Fox Theatre says staff will ensure orderly seating for the young audience with adult supervision for smaller children. The hour long program features cartoons such as Al Babies Marry-Go-Round Lucky Lulu Gilly Goose Mother Goose's Nightmare Bear Raid Warden Big Heel Watha Puttin On The Dog and Rhythm on Wheels.
A freight car loaded with canned goods arriving at Union Pacific yards from the west on Wednesday noon caught fire. Smoke poured from the car as firefighters battled the blaze, possibly started by a heating device to keep contents from freezing. Foster Cook, UP foreman, helped remove the theater with a long hoax, while crews used chemicals and water inside the car. A tractor at Midwest Combine and Tractor Co. also caught fire, with fire department providing chemicals to extinguish it.

Herbert Daniel, manager of the Omaha office of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation, said rumors of a large supply of automobiles and trucks from war surplus are unfounded. He warned that supply will be limited and equipment quality may not be the best, aiming to avoid disappointing prospective buyers.
