The building, 70 percent complete as of December 73, should be ready for occupancy in March or April, with the contractor aiming for March completion.
Natural Gas Producers Inc seeks a PUC certificate to build 487 miles of 10 inch line and 20 inch main from Hugoton to Denver plus 3 miles of 8 inch and 10.1 miles of 4 inch lines. The plan extends gas service to Fort Morgan via Brush connecting Adena Fort Morgan fields with Morgan and Logan counties. Estimated total cost 1,374,000 with meter stations and dehydrators.
Vizina fire chief warns during Christmas season that at least 1090 American homes may burn due to Christmas trees. He urges residents to be careful and notes the fire department can be reached at 5522 for emergencies during Christmas and New Year.
Christmas shoppers in Cheyenne County and surrounding territory may visit Sidney stores on Wednesday and Thursday evenings next week until 8 p.m. The Yule shopping hours were set by the Chamber of Commerce retail committee in a meeting yesterday. On Friday, the day before Christmas, stores will close at their regular times.
In Cheyenne County District Court late Wednesday Earl Kersting of Kearney pleaded guilty to a hit and run in a Lodgepole personal injury crash last August. Judge Nisley imposed the minimum $100 fine plus costs and a ten day license suspension, with 30 days to pay or face jail. A separate ruling approved a $1,450 settlement to Agnes Elmer Roberson for damages from a July 2, 1953 well accident, leaving Roberson 5 percent permanently disabled.

William Montoya a 19 year old AWOL soldier from Sterling led area police in chases this year. He surrendered to Sterling police after a week long manhunt by Colorado and Nebraska authorities. Montoya is charged with stealing a car north of Sterling Monday night and is linked to other thefts in Cliff Crook and Sterling. He was arrested previously in Sidney after a two hour chase.
City Manager Murrey Fuller announced Sidney will hold a city wide election next month on a 25000 dollar airport runway bond. Federal and state aid totaling 75000 dollars require 25 percent local financing and a timely plan submission by February 1. If the airport bond fails, immediate federal and state aid may be jeopardized and the underpass vote likely postponed.
A $10,000 damages suit was filed in Cheyenne County District Court by C A Darnsteadt of Sidney, father of Cynthia Darnsteadt, against John Murphy of Sterling and Denver based Ryan Oil Co. The claim says Cynthia Darnsteadt, age two, suffered injuries including a cosmetic deformity from a rear end collision on April 18 on U S 30, five miles east of Sidney, caused by Murphy's careless driving and a sudden stop while Murphy worked for Ryan Oil Co.
The Oil Front discovery well Northeast Pipe Line Office to be put in Sterling service. Pipe Line Co plans to open an office in Sterling Colo with a local businessman offering to build an office building. Service officials previously considered Sidney for HQ but ruled it out due to availability and being off the beaten path. Chamber of Commerce and real estate men pushed Sidney, but hopes remained faint.
Industry sources say the Henry No 1 wildcat near Potter yielded 450 feet of oil and 135 feet of oil and gas-cut mud from 5,226 to 5,30 feet in the JJ sand. The find lies close to the Ittner Pool and Hagemeister No 1, with several other new wells and wildcats in Cheyenne County signaling ongoing exploration and future drilling.

L E Wamsley named authorized Lincoln Mercury dealer for Cheyenne Deuel and Kimball Counties. Wamsleys Lincoln Mercury will operate in the O Connell Building at 14th and Illinois St. Opening planned next Wednesday to display 1955 Mercury models. The Mercury Division of Ford Motor Co announced the appointment. The building is undergoing remodeling. a modern body and paint shop is in operation, with a mechanical shop being prepared. Staff additions include Clement Shonka and Orville Krauter. body shop workers Clarence Wood and Marvin Bartling. Wamsley’s son Dennis will join the firm. He has long local sales experience and civic leadership. Residence listed as 2404 Coronado Court. Joe A Gibson remains authorized Ford dealer for the territory.
Members of the Cheyenne County Farmers Union voted to back a per bushel tax on grain rather than a blanket levy on farms. The annual meeting also approved six resolutions, including a bid to end junk mail addressed to households, and a push to return to precinct assessor systems or involve taxpayers in populous areas alphabetically until action by the Legislature.
Sidney Postmaster Don Shipman announced residential delivery would begin on Sunday to ease the Christmas mail burden. Extra city carriers start tomorrow, with sorting at the post office until noon and home delivery after 12. Cards mailed within the next day should arrive before Christmas.
Sidney police received word a young girl walked toward town along a county road two and a half miles north of Sidney. She was crying and refused rides, but officers could not locate her. Authorities theorize she may have left after an argument with her boyfriend and chose to walk back.
