Weather shifts to winter in western Nebraska with subzero lows

In western Nebraska and the Panhandle the week brought a rapid shift from summer to winter. Sidney saw a low of minus one degree as light snow fell one to four inches, creating icy highways from Cheyenne to Iowa. Northern areas around Bridgeport and Alliance reported three to four inches, with roads slow to melt.

Fifteen Auto Accidents Reported In Sidney Over Weekend

The Sidney Police Department logged fifteen auto accidents Friday to Sunday amid ice and snow. No injuries were reported. damages averaged about 100 dollars per vehicle, totaling roughly 3 000. One crash involved a car and a light pole as drivers failed to stop on slick streets. Weather outlook calls for continued cold with chances of snow Friday.

Clark Injured In Fall On Ice Near Barker Cleaners

Emmett Clark of Kokjer-Clark Chevrolet is hospitalized with a broken right ankle after a fall on ice this morning. He toppled while walking in front of The Barker Cleaners and was aided by passers-by before being taken to Memorial Hospital. Hazardous sidewalks followed last week's snowfall and sudden cold.

Open House Draws 1500 Visitors to Lodgepole Plaza Home

Sunday's event at Lodgepole Plaza Nursing Home drew about 1500 visitors, says administrator Chuck Willey. Residents are expected to begin moving in later this week.

Rites Held Today For Mrs. Minnie N Parks

Mrs Minnie N Parks 76 died Saturday at Memorial Rest Home. Funeral services were held today at Holewick Funeral Home with Rev Darrell Davis officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Survived by two daughters Mrs Grace Willerton and Mrs J E O Neal, three sons Gene George and W H Counts, 22 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Two children preceded her in death.

Unicameral to vote on tech name changes for schools
