Lodgepole Plaza Nursing Home at 15th Avenue and Toledo Street invites the public to an open house from 1 30 to 4 30 Sunday. The 60 bed facility costing about 450000 will open soon with tours before guest admittance and gradual move in over three to five months.
Cheyenne County NFO members survey farm production for future marketing programs. Delegates named for national meeting in Louisville Kentucky include Frank Jones and several couples. County plans January 11 meeting to elect officers. National president Oren Staley urges aggressive action against a three year farm bill and retail food chain price practices. Louisville convention December 16 to 18 set as rally springboard for an intensified campaign to save the family farm.

Postmaster Ferris Preble announced the mail embargo is lifted and all classes are again accepted. Post office windows will be open 8:30 to 5 tomorrow and the following Saturday December 19.
Railroad workers in Cheyenne County returned to work after a day of silence on Thursday amid union strike threats. National leaders ordered a return to service following federal warnings of heavy fines, with no local picketing or stranded passengers reported.
S A Larabee announced the American Motors line joins his dealership effective immediately. The Gremlin Hornet Javelin Matador Ambassador and Ambassador Brougham start at 1995 dollars, with the new franchise covering Cheyenne Deuel and Kimball counties. The Gremlin is highlighted as a strong seller with a 90 percent Rocky Mountain regional sales gain in the first three quarters of 1970.
The Air Force will harden nearly 500 Minuteman silos to resist attack, tripling underground protection as silos are converted from Minuteman I to Minuteman III. The program, financed at 500 million to 1 billion dollars over five years, proceeds despite no congressional authorization and ongoing arms talks with the Soviet Union.
A contract signed in Greeley links Paul M. Lewis of Highway Aircraft Corp and Ted Egging of The Egging Mfg. Co to produce a revolutionary five passenger three wheel car. The prototype passed Colorado mountain road tests proving stability and fuel efficiency.
The Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce votes to fill four board vacancies in December. Nominees include Russ Fisher Harvey Heinz Preston Hogeland and Mike Selzer to replace Bob Conrad and Jack Headley of Sidney. State Trooper Max Ibach reports a grain spill when Ernest F. Heine, 63, of rural Dalton, swerved to miss a dog and overturned a 1962 Chevrolet farm truck three miles west and 3.2 north of Gurley. The truck rolled onto its side, spilling much of the load. no injuries. Estimated damage $100. Heine cited for driving without a license.
In 1888 the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers strike against the Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railway began February 27 and ended by April 5 with no wage gains. The action disrupted Midwest service, led to injunctions, Pinkerton protection, and varied local responses including mule teams and delayed trains.
Cheyenne County appoints Jack R. Knicely as special deputy county attorney to represent at a December 22 Lincoln hearing on Hugh Griffiths parole. Griffiths, once on death row for his wife’s slaying, had life imprisonment after commutation. Witnesses include Hannah Frerichs, W. W. Schulz, and Roy Bauer, with petitions to oppose clemency.
The Sidney Public School Choirs present an annual Christmas program Tuesday December 15 at 7 30 p m in the Jr High Auditorium. The high school choir performs a selection of carols and sacred pieces with soloists Greg Luce and Cheryl Gordon. Madrigal, seventh and eighth grade choirs, elementary select chorus, and combined high school and eighth grade numbers highlight the program. The event invites the community to share in music and seasonal reflection as the choirs emphasize a varied, festive presentation with a nativity scene and lighting effects.
