ASC Sets Sign-Up Dates For 1971 Farm Programs

Cheyenne County ASC Chairman Ray Davis reports March 1 to April 9 as signup for feed grain wheat and cotton programs under the Agricultural Act of 1970. New Format Set For 1971 Chamber Meet

Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce plans a 1971 meet with an evening musical program and a brief business session. Sidney police report a theft of 230 dollars from the Chateau Restaurant cash box Sunday night. An envelope with 153 dollars and a note arrived at the Challburg home Tuesday night around 11 20 accompanied by a fleeing young man rumor. Crop Loan Resealing Announced by ASCS

The Cheyenne County ASCS Office announced reseal options for the 1971-1972 storage period. It covers farm and warehouse storage for 1970 wheat, continues 1968 and 1969 wheat loans, and extends oats and barley from 1968 1969 and 1970 crops. Settlements for older crops are required by spring, with market redemption possible.

Future Of Center Is Discussed By Sidney City Council

Sidney council members and several senior citizens discussed the future of the Sidney Senior Citizens Center after federal funding ends in about eighteen months. The center logged 10 247 visits in 1970 with 99 in November and 820 last month. The budget for this year is 12 070 dollars and funding will shift to local support as federal aid falls from 70 to 60 to 50 percent.

Bluffs Man Named Head of WNUCC

HYANNIS Members of the Western Nebraska United Chambers of Commerce elected K. L. Van Voorhis of Scottsbluff as president for 1971. Robert Rothwell of Hyannis named vice president. The group voted to host the annual meeting in January at the Thane Davis ranch. Bert Cochran of Chadron reported changes to amendments and the dues structure.

Lodgepole Official Killed in Truck Freight Collision

George Emanuelson, 66, lodgepole light and water commissioner, died when his pickup was struck by a westbound Union Pacific freight train near the east crossing. He had served the village 30 years and was a longtime weather observer. His wife Dorothy Wilt teaches in the local school system. the family planned to spend Christmas in Mesa Aziz with daughter Sharon Theis and her family.

Chadron Firm Apparent Low Bid For Bridgeport Housing

Edward F. Gutknecht Construction of Chadron appears to be the low bidder for general construction on 20 elderly housing units in Bridgeport at 227620 dollars. Six bids were opened at Bridgeport City Hall with award expected by Jan 1. Second low bid came from Don Rice of Bayard at 231000 dollars. The project total reaches 304000 dollars including land, construction, and partial furnishings.

Ballots have been mailed to all Chamber members to elect new directors for the 1971 board. Ballots must arrive at the Chamber office by noon Monday December 21 to be counted. Late ballots will not count. If you haven't voted DO IT.

Bridgeport and Southwest Sidney Lead Nebraska Oil Growth

In 1969 Nebraska’s oil picture shows Bridgeport in Morrill County rising to fifth largest state field with 654 barrels per day and 20 279 for October, while Southwest Sidney in Cheyenne County reached 19 213 barrels. Red Willow County remains top producer via Sleepy Hollow, Cedar Valley in Scotts Bluff second with 35 695 barrels, and future drilling including Sioux Army Depot land in Cheyenne County expected to expand in 1971. Marathon Oil drilled two successful wells on land leased from the federal government, with 1 600 acres leased earlier this year and the depot totaling over 30 000 acres rated highly by observers. The Interior Department and Bureau of Land Management oversee the depot area for oil gas exploration.

Educators Told All Negotiations To Be Informal In Status

The Sidney Education Association asked for official recognition under the Nebraska Teachers Professional Negotiation Act. The board declined formal recognition but agreed to listen informally and form negotiating committees for salaries benefits planning time class size and related matters. The board approved $17 722 in general expenditures.

Sidney Police Investigate Two Car Mishap on 11th Avenue

A two vehicle crash on Tuesday on 11th Avenue between Linden and King Streets involved Lee W. Curtis of 532 Deborah driving from an alley and Melanie McKinney of 2434 San Marino driving northbound. Curtis sustained about 95 dollars in damage while McKinney's car had about 80 dollars in damage.
