Potterman Rancher Dies After Car Hit By Train
A 67 year old Potterman Cady Patterson was killed Thursday when his car collided with a Burlington train at a county road crossing four miles east and 24 miles south of Mina tare. The crash tossed the car into Nine Mile Canal below the trestle. Patterson died instantly authorities say. The engineer Pete Klindworth of Alliance estimated the train at 58 mph and stopped 1622 feet from impact. Funeral arrangements are with Holachek Funeral Home Bridgeport. Survivors include his wife one daughter Maxine Jackman and one son Norman.

Dave Ells is elected commander of Barracks 2448 World War I Veterans in Sidney Nebraska and plans to retire Jan 4 after 40 years with the Sidney post office. Also elected are W E Zehr Ralph Robertson Emer Leyfang A F Whitmire and Frank Longan with installation set for Jan 3. Ells, a Schuyler native, enlisted in 1917 and served on the front with the 4th anti aircraft battery in France before returning in 1919. He remains Cheyenne County Veterans Service officer and active in American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
