At the regular meeting held December 6 1917 Sidney Volunteer Fire Department elected 1918 officers including Sol Willis president W L Elsasser vice president C J Hellwig chief Lorena Wilkes assistant chief E D Worden secretary V A Klein treasurer and trustees J L Litton Frank Clinton Gus Wellner Delegates to the Nebraska State Volunteer Firemans association Fremont January 15 include John Treinen F B Tobin Gus Wellner Soren Wilnes Chief also to attend. Treasurer report for year ending December 6 1917 shows city warrants on hand 110 90 cash on hand January 1 1917 345 94 receipts 466 95 total 932 79 disbursements 169 48 cash on hand 643 41 city warrants on hand 119 90.

State Agent Pushing More Pork Project

J. A. Holden, superintendent of the Scottsbluff experimental farm and State and Government Agricultural Agent, visited the city Monday to promote the pig industry. The state is divided into twenty districts. Holden’s district covers five counties: Cheyenne, Kimball, Banner, Scottsbluff, and Morrill.

Waterloo Boy Tractor Firm Chooses Sidney as Hub

The Waterloo Boy Tractor Company fixes Sidney as its central distributing and retail station with repairs stocked to prevent delays. Executives Noble M. Anderson J. I. ONeill J. W. Goodale and J. Scofield will relocate to Sidney to oversee operations while others serve as officers. A farewell dinner honored sons enlisting in the military.

Cheyenne County Teachers Institute Held at County High School

The Cheyenne County Teachers Institute gathered Saturday in the high school auditorium with many teachers in attendance. Dean Stockdale of Chadron State Normal gave the main address on the trials and rewards of teaching, with Emma Lind and J L Pindell presenting arithmetic and first year in high school topics. Others discussed primary devices, public school music, and related pedagogy as Miss Taylor and Mrs Bryan led demonstrations.

Mass Meeting At High School Auditorium

A mass meeting is called for Monday night at eight o'clock in the high school auditorium to revive community singing and support the Red Cross membership campaign. Mr. Lewis, supervisor of music in the public schools, will conduct the singing with two ten minute speeches. The event focuses on war songs and Christmas carols to engage the community and maximize benefits.

Lovely Red Cross Quilt Underway For Red Cross Fund

A generous woman leads a Red Cross quilt project inspired by a design that sold for 1000 dollars. Red crosses on white ground will be embroidered with names, ten cents per name, eight names per family block. Mrs Easterday provides all materials and labor, with proceeds to Red Cross funds.

St Patrick's Academy Christmas Program Adorns December Evening

St Patrick's Academy presents a Christmas program at 8:00 PM with songs from Shepherds Watch Santa Claus Court and Charge of the Light Brigade. A night featuring performances by Primary, Intermediate, and Preparatory boys and girls with a full operetta and pantomime including Silent Night. Admission 50 cents.

Frances Willard WCTU Meets For Soldier Boy Knitting

The Frances Willard WCTU met December 7 at Mrs C W Hornaday s home to knit for the soldier boys. Mrs Fred Kelley gave an excellent talk on purity with a musical interlude by Lois Stowe and readings by Mrs Soren Wilnes. A vocal solo by Arlene McCann closed the program. The next meeting, a Mother s Meeting, will be January 4 at Mrs W J Braham s home, with plans for the new year to be discussed and a large attendance desired.
