The Chamber of Commerce will launch its 1948 membership drive next Tuesday with a breakfast at Hazel's Cafe at eight. C A Story chairs membership, teams limited to ten to twelve calls, and the drive aims to complete in one day. The organization plans quarterly evening meetings, revised dues, monthly bulletins, and monthly sponsored activities starting with the Nebraska Wheat Show on January 10.

Kimball Jail Break Reported This Week
Sheriff Roscoe Tatum of Kimball County seeks Clovis Allen Reed 34 as the fugitive who escaped while painting walls at the Kimball County courthouse. Reed, convicted Oct 17 for contributing to the delinquency of a minor, is described as 5'1" and 110 pounds, with missing teeth and multiple aliases. Circulars will be sent to neighboring agencies.

Gurley Church to Hold Debt Free Rededication
The Gurley Community Church will rededicate as debt free on Sunday at 2:30 PM led by Bishop William C. Martin. Dr R L Spooner will preach. a new Hammond organ funded by the Gathman family in memory of Mrs Rosie Gathman will be dedicated. Col Hopping a highly decorated WWII veteran assumed command of the Sioux Ordnance Depot Sidney succeeding Maj Fonda who becomes Executive Officer. He came from San Jacinto Depot Texas after commanding there and earlier served with Patton and Patch in Germany. A veteran of 26 years in the army he took part in North Africa Sicily Anzio Rome Arno campaigns and France and Germany. His awards include the Meritt with Oak Leaf Cluster Bronze Star Bronze Arrowhead and French Legion of Honor among others.

SCS Supervisors Will Convene Today

Whitesides Sentenced to One Year in State Reformatory
Richard N. Whitesides pleaded guilty to passing a bogus check at the county treasurer’s office on September 27. A district judge, J. L. Jewell, imposed a one year sentence in the men's state reformatory at Lincoln after a November 25 arrest at the courthouse. He was bound over from a November 28 preliminary hearing on a $500 bond.

Nebraska Wheat Show Trophy to Winner at Sidney
The winning sample of wheat at the Nebraska Wheat Show in Sidney January 10 will earn the Nebraska Wheat Trophy for 1948 and a $25 U. S. Savings Bond. Fourteen high ranking samples receive Savings Stamp awards and ribbons. First and second prize winners advance to national honors with $50 cash and an all expense trip to Minneapolis. A county award of $15 will go to the county submitting the most acceptable samples to spur 4 H and F F A crop projects. The top 15 lots will be re scored by milling and baking tests to emphasize quality factors.
