Pirates of Penzance Delights Sidney High Audience

About 400 to 450 attend Sidney high school’s Pirates of Penzance at the U S A theatre. The show nets roughly 75 over expenses to buy new instruments for the high school orchestra. Obituary of Mrs Mary Boling 59 in Sidney

Mrs Mary Boling age 59 died at her daughter Mrs Harry Wingersons home in Sidney Tuesday afternoon after a paralytic stroke last Saturday. Body taken to Stanwood Iowa for burial beside husband. Born Stanwood March 25 1865 she lived in Cheyenne county and Sidney owning land. Wingerson is her only child. Husband Boling was killed two years ago this month in a fall from an automobile returning from work for the Union Pacific.

Farmers Union Holds Very Successful County Meeting

One of the largest annual Cheyenne County Farmers Union gatherings convened in the district court room Wednesday. Officers were re elected, Glen Bales named president, with unanimous support. Ray Swift and L F Cunningham were re elected, J C Johnson chosen director, and state delegate Swift. A noon basket dinner followed, with remarks on the union’s progress and upcoming resolutions to be published next week.

Demolay Boys Hurt In Car Accident East Of Dix

Eight Demolay boys were riding in a Chevrolet sedan borrowed to reach Kimball for a DeMolay chapter installation when driver Robert Hornaday lost control on a snowy road. The car struck a rut, rolled 1.5 times, wrecking the top and body. Spencer Flo and Clifford Walt suffered severe hand injuries, with tendons cut. all were taken to Kimball after a delay finding a doctor. The group will compensate Mr Hunt for the wrecked vehicle.

The annual Sidney high school football banquet will be held in the Union Pacific hotel dining room Friday night of this week. The new 1925 football captain will be announced at the banquet.

Sitz Cereal Mill Expands With New Plant Near Burlington

The Sitz Cereal Mill company is constructing a two story frame building with basement to house a rapidly expanding operation. Leroy Sitz says the mill will open next March. the structure spans 40 by 48 feet with a 30 foot elevator, two blocks from the Burlington tracks. The firm buys all grain locally and distributes products to Alliance Julesburg Sterling and Mitchell among others, selling fresh pancake flour wheat and rye graham flour whole wheat corn meal grits and chick feed. The expansion is aided by superior quality and local sourcing, with the business already securing several hundred dollars of new machinery and plans to continue growth.

Public School Notes Annual Christmas vacation announced

The Christmas break runs sixteen days from Friday, December 19, after dismissal, to Monday, January 5. A Christmas tree and program will be held in every room, with each pupil receiving a treat. Commissioners Order Sheriff To Return Excess Fees

Cheyenne county commissioners met in special session to require Sheriff J W McDaniel to return excess fees for 1919 through 1922 to the county treasurer. They also passed a resolution to remove two Union Pacific grade crossings east and west of Potter by building underpasses, and directed the highway clerk to discuss with UP authorities. The board will reconvene December 16.

Sunol Adds 8500 To School Expansion Work

Agitation over crowded facilities led to four elections for an 8500 bond. After legal challenges and a dismissed case, a final vote approved the addition. Contractor Charles Rebing, heating by Wright, and architect Bradley report the 38 by 76 foot wing with a 16 foot stage will be top quality.

The Order of Eastern Star in Sidney elected officers Wednesday night for the coming year. Mary Jorgensen was named Worthy Matron, Kenneth Agnew Worthy Patron, Maud Pettibone Associate Matron, Rodeen Greenwood Conductress, Flora Wolfe Associate Conductor, Avis Rogers secretary, Julia Mann treasurer. Christmas Tree Program Set For Sidney Eve

The first Sidney municipal Christmas tree exercises will start at 5 p.m. with carols readings and a program by local groups. A twenty five foot electrically lighted tree will be placed near the Lincoln Highway and Central Avenue, with candy for 2000 children. Santa Claus will distribute candy, and merchants will place trees at their stores if shipped in time. The K C order has donated 125 dollars for expenses. A chorus rehearsal for reed players is planned at Central grade school Monday at 8 30 p m.

Sidney County Club House Nearing Completion

The Sidney Country club house progresses toward completion and should host the first social gathering of members and ladies early next year. The fireplace was delayed but is now a standout feature, lathing is underway, plastering and maple floors will follow, furnace and wiring are installed, and outer stucco awaits spring due to cold.
