State wheat value hits new record

Nebraska 1974 wheat crop valued at a record 404.26 million dollars from 96.6 million bushels. Yield averaged 34 bushels per acre, below 1973 and the 1958 peak, due to dry hot weather and pests. price 4.10 per bushel. Oats, rye, and barley outputs also reported with respective values and prices.

Waste rates rise as Sidney City Council acts

The Sidney City Council raised residential waste collection by 29 percent to four dollars a month, effective January. Commercial rates rise 29 percent on May 1 1975. Officials cite inflation and fund equipment needs. The council also revised the 1963 personnel manual and approved rezoning at 816 King St to central business district.

Dalton Gurley split School District 61 dissolution unity

Cheyenne County Re organization Committee dissolved School District 61 which contracted K 8 students to Dalton and Gurley for two years. District 61 will be divided with about one third to Dalton and two thirds to Gurley. The action takes effect after June 30 1975.

Gering OKs School Bonds With Broad Voter Support

In Nebraska, Gering voters approved a $2.489 million school bond 961 to 437 to fund a new elementary school and expand another to become a junior high. all five wards backed the plan. Hadar residents approved a $90,000 bond 116 to 6 for a new elementary school.

Sidney school bond plan aims to expand facilities

The Board of Education discussed a proposed bond issue to fund expansion of Sidney schools including vocational space, a vocal music room and extra facilities at North and South Elementary Schools. An architect from Lincoln will study needs. plans and costs are not yet set.

Sidney Band schedules White House concert tour in 1975

Sidney High School Band plans a six day Washington D C tour with a White House concert and several appearances. Director Bill McDonald says the trip will cost about 26800 with 175 per student to cover gaps after fundraising. About 7300 has been raised. eight more fundraisers are planned.

Enrollment Decline Tied to I 80 Closure in Sidney

The closing of Interstate 80 reduced Sidney Public Schools enrollment by about 50 as Superintendent R. J. Pedersen reported to the Board of Education. About 27 families connected to state and construction firms have moved from Sidney in six weeks, leaving total enrollment under 1,600, the lowest in years.

Slight chance of snowfall across Nebraska forecast

The forecast predicts a slight chance of scattered snow flurries in western areas Thursday with highs from around 40 to the middle 40s. Beatrice reached 56 degrees Tuesday while Alliance opened the day at eight degrees with cold night readings expected to persist.

Signs Put Up to Help Find Sidney for motorists

Temporary 9 by 4 foot signs identifying Sidney will appear before month end after a Cheyenne County Chamber request. Four by six foot signs will mark exits and a Hospital Route sign will guide drivers toward Sidney and Bridgeport along existing routes.
