Sidney Board to mull 1975 bond for school additions
The Sidney Board of Education will discuss initiating a 1975 bond issue and construction program at tonight’s meeting. Planned additions at Sidney High School Sidney Junior High and North and South Elementary would add space for music Vocational and physical education. Superintendent Pedersen provided a timetable including a citizen committee and fiscal agent discussion. The board will hear from Band director Bill McDonald and Band Parents on a Washington DC trip. English teacher Bill Christy seeks a semester leave to attend the Army Command and General Staff College. Also on the agenda is Jerry Gardner’s appointment as Junior High English teacher disaster plan bus use for hospital needs and attendance at a salary and negotiation workshop.

Duchess Hotel Fire Evacuates Dozen. Fire destroys building
Ogallala police and firefighters battled a blaze at the Duchess Hotel on Route 30 starting late night into morning. About 30 residents lived in the hotel. two were hospitalized for observation while others were released. Five businesses including K C Industries were destroyed along with the bus terminal as crews from neighboring towns assisted. A baby and tourist family were treated for smoke inhalation.

Cold Front Edges Into Nebraska Weather
A high pressure center over the Western Plateau kept Nebraska dry as a Pacific-type front moves eastward. Western Nebraska will see cooler Tuesday highs in the 40s, with dry air and partly cloudy skies tonight. Lows range from the teens west to the lower 20s east. Retiring Cheyenne County Sheriff Honored by Colleagues
About 100 law enforcement officers and friends attended a Sunday reception for retiring Cheyenne County Sheriff Kermit Brumbaugh who will end his second term next month after 22 years in law enforcement including service with the Nebraska State Patrol. tributes were offered by Sidney Ellis Exalted Ruler Del Lamm the Cheyenne County American Legion the Potter American Legion Post and Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce manager Ed Cole. Brumbaugh received a color television set from a group of friends and he with Mrs Brumbaugh were honored with a decorated cake. The event was organized by Deputy Darrell Johnson Mrs Havey George and Cole as a tribute to Brumbaugh and all law enforcement officers.

Disaster drill sets stage for spring exercise
Memorial Hospital staged a six month planning exercise with the Community Disaster Committee on Sunday. Thirteen National Guard patients simulated evacuation from the east wing during a mock fire. Nurses evacuated the wing in 2 minutes 40 seconds aiming for four minutes to clear all patients.
