Nebraska's oil exploration and production have become a multi million dollar operation in less than a decade. In eleven months of 1958 drillers completed 335 wells with 184 new wells in production, centered in Kimball Banner and Cheyenne counties.

The Cheyenne-Deuel County Sheep Producers Association meeting scheduled for last Friday night has been postponed. It will be held this coming Friday December 12 at the Lodge Polo Bank, chairman Lemoyne E Johnson announced.

Postmaster Don Gillham reports higher incoming mail volume than last year but notes parcels and letters from Sidney arrive slowly. Snowy streets slow deliveries. four trucks are used instead of two. Youth Injured By Gun Blast In Rabbit Hunt

Eugene Frerichs 16 son of Mr and Mrs Ernest Frerichs was shot in the right arm when a shotgun discharged while being removed from a car. He and another youth were rabbit hunting along the northeast edge of Sidney. The blast entered between the wrist and elbow and caused a severe wound. State Trooper Del Shipley took him to Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment.

Far East Visit Signals Wheat Market Expansion for Great Plains

Nebraska Wheat Growers Assn president George Gerdes reports in Tokyo that Japan and the Philippines are expanding demand for U S wheat from the Great Plains amid strong competition from Canada Australia and Russia. He notes a modern flour mill in Manitla and plans further travel in Bangkok India and other Far East nations before Christmas with Pacific Northwest and Foreign Agricultural Service colleagues.

City Council Approves Turn on Red Rule and Liquor Actions

City officials approved a right turn on red after a full stop provided pedestrians have green light priority. The council granted a liquor license for the Sidney Motel Hotel, Inc. and heard reports on Pastime Club liquor violations after state investigators arrested the manager and a waitress for selling whiskey without a license.

South Sidney considers new commercial district on Grabill addition

Mel Adams of Horizons Unlimited told the city council about a planned commercial district in the Grabill addition on the east side of Highway 19. A small shopping center and bowling alley could rise if nearby property owners within 300 feet consent. Some council members prefer the site to be within city limits and require neighbor approval. The city manager noted no utility arrangements for a residential development near the Sidney Country Club. In other business, three building permits were approved: a 14 by 24 ft frame garage at 1157 Country Club Drive for L G Bickham, a neon sign for North Side Market at 532 13th Ave, and a $16,500 one family dwelling at 2640 El Rancho Road, 30 by 42 ft.

Airport Ready For Traffic In Sidney Frontier Service

Sidney's airport is ready for commercial service with a mid February start. City Manager Murrey Fuller said runway extensions to handle DC 3s from Frontier Air Lines are nearly complete. The CAB approved Sidney to Denver and Omaha routes, with a Casper link possible if traffic grows, though petitions could delay.
