Nebraska delays in Interstate plan aim to ease congestion

SAN FRANCISCO Nebraska Highway Department official L N Ress defended the states pace of Interstate construction saying Nebraska chose to ease bottlenecks in busy eastern areas and would not rush projects. He testified at a convention panel rebutting Time magazine criticisms and outlined plans to maintain funding and accelerate contracts until 1961 with a long term pace tied to federal funds.

Nebraska Vets to Receive $1 945 600 Insurance Dividends

A. H. Duxbury of the Veterans Administration announces Nebraska veterans with participating NSLI and USGLI policies will share $1 945 600 in the national 1959 dividend. About 39 786 Nebraska GI policyholders are affected with NSLI holders getting 1 786 000 and USGLI holders 159 600. Dividends depend on policy anniversary dates in 1959 and are paid after each policy anniversary.

Chalmers and Barton Construction Company of Hutchinson Kansas won the contract for the Farmes Co-Op Grain elevator addition at Sidney. The bid is 114200 dollars. The upgraded design increases capacity to 609000 bushels with 18000 more in storage. Construction should begin momentarily.

State investigators arrested Richard Peetz operator of the Pastime Club and Alena Hickman waitress for selling whiskey without a license. They pleaded guilty in Cheyenne County Court and were fined $100 each plus costs.

Oil Rig Damage Estimated At 100000 In Fire Loss

Damage has been placed at 100000 to an oil rig destroyed by fire 13 miles southwest of here on November 25. W F Rogers of Rogers Drilling Company of Scottsbluff made the estimate, noting the rig burned when a bucket of diesel fuel soaked cotton seed hulls tipped over.

FBI Identifies Body Found In Railroad Car In Sheridan Wyoming

The body found in a Burlington railroad coal car in Sheridan Wyoming on November 26 has been identified by the FBI as Harry P. Coons a former Missouri penitentiary inmate. Fingerprints confirmed identity, ruling out Roy L. Jacobson the missing Potter farmer. Sheriff W. W. Schulz noted the corpse likely died months ago and foul play was suspected due to a missing skull portion.
