Mayor proposes fund drive for Sidney historical museum plan

Chamber advocates outspoken membership and open feedback

Sidney residents were urged to engage with the Chamber as Christ praised the organization for an outstanding year. Seven heavy members were elected with three new faces Bob Clark Warren Ellison and L.A. Lindstrom. Christ Wilson Kreiger and Odlund were re elected. The new president is a past American Legion leader, former Junior Chamber president, and member of the Elks and Roary.

Man Found Dead in Chicago Identified as Lester P. Cole

Lester P. Cole, 57, once sentenced here in 1852 for grand larceny, was found dead on a Chicago street on November 25. Sheriff W. W. Schulz said fingerprints on file with the FBI confirmed his identity. Cole had a long criminal record from car theft to theft of government property dating back to 1926.

Torrington Rites For Herrera Infant Today

Funeral services were held in Torrington Wyoming for Martha Ann Herrera four week old daughter of John A and Paula Rodriguez Herrera of Sidney. The infant had been ill since birth on November seventeenth and died Monday evening. Burial followed in Torrington Cemetery with Crag Mortuary in charge. Surviving are three brothers a sister and grandparents.

School Bond Vote Falls Short in Kimball

Kimball residents rejected a proposed $575,009 elementary school bond issue with 812 against and 230 in favor, amid turnout of 1,012. In Pine Bluffs Wyoming, a separate $210,000 bond for a new elementary school and high school remodeling passed by a large majority.

FBI Agent Gearty to Speak on Juvenile Problems

Special agent in charge Thomas J. Gearty of the Omaha FBI will address the St Patrick's Parent Teacher's Guild on juvenile problems at 8 pm Thursday at the Youth Center. A brief business session will follow. Gearty is an authority on juvenile issues serving Nebraska and Iowa.

Potter Firemen's Auxilary Wins Outstanding Unit Award

The Potter Fire Department auxiliary, with just over a dozen members, is named the Outstanding Auxiliary in the state at the Nebraska Volunteer Firemen's convention. Second place goes to Schuster and third to Columbus. last year Potter placed third. The group, led by president Glen Lapska, completed over two dozen projects including first aid training, hospital bed purchase, blood bank planning, Christmas baskets, and 100 percent state membership.

Sidney Sets Pace For Nebraska In Population Growth Since 1950

Dr Edgar Z Palmer chair of the University of Nebraska business research notes Sidney Nebraska led large cities in population growth between 1950 and 1958 nearly doubling from 4 713 to 8 758 making it the state 12nd largest city replacing Alliance Palmer cites oil industry and an ordnance depot as drivers while Nebraska overall gained 108 000 residents and rural areas shrank alignment with Lincoln and Omaha plus a nationwide trend toward urban migration.

Nebraska Oil and Gas Commission issues first directive

Sid ney Nebraska. The commission requires dry hole plugging rules and surety bonds for well drilling. One well bond is 2500 dollars and blanket bonds 10000 dollars. Bond forms available from the Sidney office. Operators must file bonds before drilling permits post January 1. Report oil gas and water production accurately. Winds Leave Damage Across Nebraska Wheat Fields

Government crop observers report winds and blowing soils damaging winter wheat and fall seedings across many Nebraska counties. Surface moisture is needed as precipitation has been below normal and some western districts show serious soil blowing. Only 7 percent of corn remained unharvested last week with open weather aiding field work. northeast counties had 20 to 30 percent still in the field and southeast areas 15 to 20 percent.
