Sidney Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting and Elections

The Sidney Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual election and business meeting Tuesday at 6 30 p m at the City Auditorium. About 100 members have indicated they will attend. Sidney area car crash injures two drivers on US 30

Deputies investigated a Friday afternoon side swipe one mile west of Sidney on US Highway 30. John H Laire slowed to turn south when Robet Knudsen attempted to pass and struck Laire’s car causing about 250 dollars in damage.

Death of Lester A Hand 54 Native of Sidney

Lester A Hand 54 longtime Sidney resident died suddenly at his farm south of Sidney from a heart attack. He ran Hands Dairy with family. survived by wife Myrtle and two sons Lester Jr and Franklin, daughter Donna Marie Dillendack, five grandchildren and five sisters. Funeral at First Methodist Church Thursday at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Robert L. Towns officiating. Old Gent Knows All 400 Kids Welcome Santa Flight

The Civil Air Patrols Flying Santa visited in 33 degree weather Saturday, greeting about 400 children and 200 adults. Santa scolded some on table manners and bed time, offered candy canes for repaired or donated toys, and with CAP cadets Lynne Grove Charla Hesse and Jenny Meis helped load toys for the Fire Department Rescue Squad to distribute to needy families at Christmas. Sidney CAP officials led by Aden Karnik and P J Heaton Jr supervised the event with three planes, including Santa in a decorated craft.

Frontier Plans Flight Reductions In Nebraska

Frontier Airlines moves to cut Nebraska service effective Jan 1 with a single round trip daily between Denver and Omaha and revised east west timings. No personnel cuts at Sidney yet though two other towns may see reductions. Officials meet CAB in Washington Thursday to review the plan.

Civil Defense Practice Alert Reported Smooth Run

Operation Checkerboard tested the Civil Defense air raid warning system this morning. Police communications officer Jim Siefer said the alert started in Bridgeport at 08 00 and spread to Sidney Alliance Kimball Oshkosh and Chappell.

Moody James A Dies At 52 Rites Slated Wednesday

James A Moody 52 formerly of Sidney died yesterday in Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services are set for Wednesday at 2 pm at Light Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Carl L Nelson officiating and burial in Greenwood Cemetery. He lived in Sidney 16 years and previously farmed in Scottsbluff before joining the state highway department. He is survived by his wife Helen Stooks Moody, a daughter Phylis, a son Duane, his parents, and five brothers. Memorials are requested to the cancer fund.

Two Jailed In Fatal Hit-Run At Scottsbluff

Scotts Bluff County authorities jailed two men Sunday in the hit and run death of Walter Red Eyes a 50 year old laborer from Kyle South Dakota. A cab driver Bruce Stallings found the body around 12 15 a m near the city border. Mrs Allen Ludwig heard brakes and a thud then saw the car flee. Sheriff Warrick said water near the scene indicated the radiator ruptured and the car was traced to a service station whereGarland Green and Elmer Gross washed it and Gross admitted involvement.
