Lincoln Nebraska law took effect November 18 to curb indiscriminate shooting from public roads, announced by the Game Commission. It bans discharging firearms or weapons using compressed gas on highways bridges and roads, while allowing target shooting on private land or at established ranges.
North Platte will host the Class A Western Regional high school basketball tournament March 1 2 4 1966. Schools in the field are North Platte Sidney Alliance and Scotts Bluff with Jerry Lee as tournament director and Dean Webb Paul Kipper as officials. Pairings to be set Feb 14 by seed draw. Alliance to host 1967 Scottsbluff 1968 Sidney 1969.
The 1966 National Safe Boating Week is set for July 3 to July 9, announced by Capt. DW Sinclair chairman of the safety division. He leads the US Coast Guard recreational boating safety program and issued the notice. Attendance and pari mutuel records were broken at the 1965 New Mexico State Fair in Albuquerque. The 28th annual exposition drew 367,650 attendees, surpassing 1964, while a $5,052,926 horse racing handle marked a new high for the 11-day meet.
Lodgepole used a last quarter spurt to down Big Springs 64 to 57 for a second straight win. Rex Behrends led Lodgepole with 19 points, Jim Behrends 14, Kehl 12, Sto 10. Brestal and McGreer each scored 21 for Big Springs. Lodgepole volleyball won in straight sets. next game at Julesburg after Big Springs reserves won 28-21.
