Thirty Sidney businesses, all Chamber of Commerce members, join a Christmas drawing for youngsters on Saturday December 18 on the courthouse square starting at seven. Kids 14 and under are eligible for more than thirty prizes. registration is at any participating store or by parent entry if the child cannot register. The event caps a month long retail promotion to spotlight Sidney during the 1965 holiday season. Mr and Mrs Roger Plantz report their son Roger Plantz has been evacuated from Viet Nam with malaria. He is listed as USMC 2041364 stationed at U S Air Force Hospital Clark Air Base APO San Francisco 96274. The Telegraph prints service address changes in Viet Nam to aid correspondence.
The Chamber of Commerce and depot command invite the public to tours of Sioux Army Depot next week. Tours depart Ft. Sidney Motor Hotel at 9 a.m. Monday December 13 with a 9:20 arrival and 3 p.m. return. Lunch at the depot is at attendees’ expense.
Agriculture Secretary Orville Freeman will speak at the National Association of Wheat Growers annual convention in Lincoln December 14 to 17. Nebraska hosts hundreds of wheat growers from the nation’s 10 major wheat producing states. Other speakers include Rep. Graham Purcell, Sen. Milton Young, Herschell Newsom, and Pat Greathouse.
A Sidney Kiwanis Club Christmas package drive to Far East servicemen drew a grateful thanks from Cpl. Larry J. Willard now stationed in a Chu Lai area. He praised the club for thoughtfulness, urged unity against antiwar protests, and said he hopes to meet the group in four months.
Cpl. Larry J. Willard, a 1964 Sidney High School graduate, enlisted in the Marine Corps March 24, 1964, finishing high school before reporting June 7. A Sidney police case moves to a jury as Clarence Bills sues officers for 10000 over an July 16 arrest. District court opens with claims of excessive force. Witnesses include Bills, Loaris family, Dr. Sherrerd, and lab tech Vanderhoof who cites high blood alcohol levels.
A Dalton Peace Corps worker Audrey Kragel Wiechman 23 was reported in good condition after a Sunday crash near Lome Togo in which 115 people died. Her husband Don Wiechman also served in Togo and was uninjured as a speeding trailer rammed a snake dancing procession during a tribal feast.
James Eddington of Scotts Bluff Nebraska state representative of the National Foundation of Infantile Paralysis will attend the Cheyenne county chapter dinner Thursday evening. He will present a film on birth defects as the March of Dimes drive officially opens in the county. The event begins at 7 p.m. at the Fort Sidney Motor Hotel with community chairmen in attendance.
The Mike Selzer family will hear the sound of music from both coasts on New Years Day. Jim Selzer, a Nebraska freshman and marching band member, will accompany the Nebraskans to Miami for the Nebraska Alabama game. Bob Selzer, a Sidney High School student, will march with the Sidney band in Pasadena for the Tournament of Roses Parade and attend the Michigan State UCLA game, as centennial representatives. Both are bass players.

Raymond L. Davis, ASCS County Committee chairman, said the office is not ready to sign up participants for new farm programs. Signups, including feed grains, wheat, and cropland adjustment, likely start early in 1966 after details are settled. Farmers will be reminded well in advance to file applications showing intent to participate.
The Sidney High School band parents organization received a $500 check, their share of the Lions Auxiliary pancake feed profits from Sidney held on November 3. The Lions Club added to bring the total to exactly $500, with net profits reported over $430.
A group of Cheyenne County officials traveled to discuss county procedures with state counterparts. Ralph Englert and Mrs Mable Jorgensen joined in Omaha for a three day session, along with Ruby Henkle and A A Fenske. John Webb led Cheyenne County school superintendents to Lincoln for their gathering.
