Vets to Circulate for Referendum Vote on Prohibition Question
New York reports a National Association Against the Prohibition Amendment launched a $3,000,000 campaign to circularize 30,000,000 voters for a national referendum at the 1928 presidential elections. Capt. William H. Slayton outlined plans at Hotel Astor with 36 members from 25 committees. The effort aims to repeal or modify the 18th Amendment, with states possible if federal action fails. The group proposes a prohibition solution restricting liquor near sale sites and links taxation to liquor policy, arguing current taxes shift costs to consumers. Additional Washington meetings with senators and representatives are planned after Congress convenes.

Willard oil test reaches depth over five thousand feet
The Willard oil test reached 5405 feet at noon Wednesday as the drill appears to pass from sand into shale. The sand, likely Dakota, is believed to hold fresh water and is over a hundred feet thick, unusually logged for Colorado wells. Dean Winchester of Denver urged continued drilling to penetrate more sands. The company awaits a December 16 hearing in Greeley on a gas line certificate of convenience and necessity to Denver and other towns.
