Insect Infestations Increase Noted In Stored Grain This Fall
University of Nebraska entomologist Robert E. Roselle notes grain insects rose this fall due to moisture and warm temperatures. Fumigation is the main control once infestations are established, best when grain is above 70 degrees and moisture at 12 percent or lower. Samples show when one weevil or borer is found per quart, or five other insects per quart, fumigation is advised. Check stored grain every three to four weeks for insects, rodents, hot spots, and moisture.

Farmer's Net Will Decline Ag Heads Say
The U S Department of Agriculture forecasts farm net income for 1959 will lag 1958 despite a record 1958 year. Costs rising and acreage reserve payments ending threaten income, with hog prices and feed costs driving the expected 5 to 10 percent decline. Carryover stocks in wheat corn and feeds are set to increase as production remains strong. Hog production is expanding due to abundant feed and favorable hog corn price ratios.
