Law officers from three states to attend Northeast Colorado meet

More than 100 lawmen from eastern Wyoming northeastern Colorado and western Nebraska gather in Sidney for the semi annual meeting at the Fort Sidney Hotel. Bryan John son of Gering Scotts Bluff County Attorney is principal speaker. Door prizes include tires cigars boot polish and a $25 savings bond among many items donated by local merchants.

Mishaps Involve TM Property Loss No Injuries

Sidney police reported three accidents Friday after a near perfect holiday record with one mishap. A hit and run between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. damaged a parked car believed to be Charles Rapp's. A motorcycle driven by Ervin Farrell collided with a pickup behind it, injuring no one. An intersection crash at 14th and Jackson damaged a Potter car driven by Fred Reetz and a station wagon driven by Clinton Allison.

Alertness Aids In Rapid Recovery Of Stolen Auto

A 1958 Cadillac owned by H L Rogers of Sidney was stolen in front of Broadway Plaza Motel Denver and recovered the same day due to Mrs H L Rogers Jr spotting the vehicle. Police detained Donald L Rose and Clifford A Johnson both 25 and 27 in Denver city jail for investigation.

Sidney Rest Home Becomes Topic of CSU Term Project

Judy Bush, a senior at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, selects the Memorial Rest Home as her public relations term project. The home will be built with Memorial Hospital, funded by a trust started by Mr and Mrs Guy W Doran to honor their grandparents. Construction is expected to begin soon, with many ideas drawn from The Sidney Telegraph during the campaign.

IFYE Student Alice Young To Speak In Sidney Wednesday

Alice M. Young of O'Neill returns from Europe as an IFYE exchange ambassador. She will address Sidney Lions Club at noon and Kiwanis dinner, then speak to Cheyenne County Rural Youth at 8 pm at the 4-H building. Her tour includes Garden, Deuel, Imperial, McCook and Benkelman events.

Jury Selected for Holms Embezzlement Trial in Cheyenne County

An all male jury was chosen to open the Cheyenne County District Court term. The first case, an embezzlement charge against Frank P. Holms, is expected to run until Tuesday with District Judge EJ Nisley presiding. Jurors named include Virgil Ely and Troy E. Smith among others.

Burglary Reported At Lorenzo and Hyannis

Sheriff W W Schulz reports an attempted safe cracking at the Farmers Union Co op Assn in Lorenzo over the weekend. The burglary was found Monday morning. Another break in occurred at Hyannis with similar methods, netting a 21 inch television set and £150.

Wheat Parity Program To Be Discussed At Wheat Growers Meet

National Association of Wheat Growers meets in Denver December 10 13 with more than 500 growers from at least eight states including Cheyenne County. Key topics include a parity program for Congress and USDA guidance higher quality standards and new market development.

Ohi Oil Co. will learn today if the No. 1 Meier well in Logan County Colorado will produce or be a dry hole. Drillers had reached 5235 feet and were preparing to run a drill stem test shortly before noon today.

Doctor's Stolen Kit Recovered

A medical kit valued at over 300 dollars, stolen last Wednesday, was recovered by Sidney police Saturday night. An officer in a cruiser found the kit on the west edge of town, with sheriff W. W. Schultz confirming it contained the same items except for a small amount of narcotics.

Certified Seed Growers To Meet At Dalton

The Cheyenne County Certified Seed Producers Assn. holds its annual meeting and banquet Tuesday at Eckherts Cafe in Dalton. The session begins at 6 30 p m with dinner tickets priced at 2 dollars as stated by association president Leon Larson.

1958 May Be Record Year for World Farm Output

A survey by the Agricultural Marketing Service credits Cheyenne County with large winter wheat crops and record corn, plus increased feed grains and safflower production. Nationally, rice, corn, and sugar gains are seen. milk output may rise, meat output stable with beef dips and pork up, while world trade in food nears 1957-58 highs.

Holiday Reunion Marred By Auto Accident

A Thanksgiving reunion for Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Harrington of Sidney was marred by a head on collision near Hudson Colorado. No one was injured though both cars were destroyed. The Harringtons were en route to Boulder to visit their son when another vehicle from Denver skidded into their path. The other driver was Samuel Wycoff of Denver. All cars were towed from the scene. The Harringtons rode a bus to Boulder that evening.

COFC Tickets Ready For Meeting December 16

Sidney prepares for a December 16 meeting with Paul Harms of Scottsbluff and Charles Chase of North Platte to argue for a strong Chamber of Commerce. Members will vote on continuing or disbanding the Sidney Chamber, with ballots mailed or available at the dinner. Tickets are $2 and 400 to 500 seats are hoped for.
