Ernest Jaeckel Dies In Iowa
Ernest S. Jaeckel, former Sidney resident, died this morning in a Hamburg Iowa hospital. Funeral arrangements are pending in Hamburg where he and his wife moved about five years ago. Jaeckel came to Sidney in 1920 and worked 30 years for the Union Pacific Railroad as a car repairman and inspector until retiring in 1951. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Sidney and both he and his wife were active in church work.

Friday Deadline for Real Estate Tax Payments
The final day to pay the second half of 1955-56 real estate taxes without penalty is Friday. Delinquent payments after August 31 incur 8 percent interest. Treasurer Herb Stevens expects about 92 percent of taxes to be paid by week’s end, with 82.06 percent of combined county taxes already settled. New taxes will be due November 1.
