Carnival Notes Reveal Local Scandals and Shortcomings

Sheriff McDaniel sparked outrage with alleged improprieties at the carnival as authorities argued arrest rules. the Merry Widow venue charged entry and served secondhand banquets while deacons and club leaders drew attention with youthful misbehavior. Two Artists Plead Guilty in Burglary Case at McIntosh House

Sam Downey and Henry Harris, arrested after visiting J. L. McIntosh residence last Tuesday, were arraigned before Judge Tucker on burglary charges, pleaded guilty, and are held for district court. A third youth was held as a witness while the stolen goods including jewelry silver and bric a brac were valued highly.

Stephen Buzza Dies After Gastritis Surgery in Alden Iowa

Stephen Buzza aged eighty three died Monday at his daughter Mrs L J Thompson's home in Alden Iowa after a three week visit. He succumbed to gastritis and body to be buried in Grand Island with funeral at First Trinity M E Church. George Luzza attended the obsequies.

Travelers Return Report Across Iowa and South Dakota

Wallace Oosterhoudt and family returned from a month in Whitmore Iowa and other Iowa and South Dakota stops. He notes poor corn yields and high rents in Iowa while oats yield strongly. In South Dakota conditions are reversed with better crops. He treasures home as the best place on earth and recalls a tale of a large muskelonge from Iowa's lakes.

Parker Shows Carnival Brightens Sidney Visit

The Parker Shows, nicknamed the Parker Collection of Novelties, drew crowds to Sidney near the Union Pacific depot. The eight rides and attractions featured Tyrolean Alps scenery, the Ocean Wave ride, Pharaoh's Daughter, and a Ferris Wheel. The company employs 150 people, operates 15 railway cars, and powers itself with a 25 horsepower engine and 35 kilowatt dynamo. They depart for North Platte tomorrow, with Sidney approval and good will.

Lutheran Sunday School Picnic at Kreuger's Lake

Lutherans held their annual Sunday School picnic on Wednesday last week. A hay rack transported about ten private rigs to Kreuger’s lake where dam breaks left a strange shore inviting clam shell gathering and bass fishing though most fish were half dead. Children led with races and gymnastic feats. Mrs Griffith won the umbrella race, Mrs Jessen the lemon race, Alfred Shipman the pack race, and Elizabeth Schroeder the gmail girls’ race. The day was ideal. all returned at twilight singing and praising, deeming 1908’s picnic a success.

Water Works Material Arriving

Hershey 8: Welcao of North Platte spent Friday in the city. Mr. Welch is the engineer having the new water works plant to supervise and will spend much time in the city until completion. First car load of material arrived over the Burlington Thursday. When begun, no hindrance is expected to delay speedy completion, replacing the present limited water supply.
