The Cheyenne County Fair and centennial of 1967 showcased unprecedented local cooperation. Farmers and townspeople joined planning and staging, with nearly all businesses closing for a day as a countywide gesture. Leaders praise Merle Bobo and committees, 4 H and extension service, mayors, and farmers for a proud, unified effort and optimism for future success.

Improved Frontier air service begins in Sidney

Frontier Airline launches jet prop service to Sidney on Sept 1 with flight 566 from Denver arriving at 12 24 pm. Executives and city officials will inaugurate the route after a $400 000 runway upgrade to handle the Convair 580 and future jet prop operations.

Western Nebraskans press for new I 80 design near Big Springs

A Friday meeting at Ft. Sidney Motor Hotel drew 150 attendees from Sidney Kimball and Chappell to press for restudying the Interstate 80 junction near Big Springs. Governor Tiemann, highway officials, and local leaders pledged further study and safer curves on State Route 19, with Western Nebraska seeking Nebraska first in shaping the plan.

J O Lobb Services To Be Tuesday

Prominent Cheyenne County farmer Jason C. Lobb, age 85, died Saturday at Memorial Hospital after about a year of declining health. Funeral services set for 10 AM Tuesday at First Methodist Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Craig-Holechek Funeral Home in charge. Survivors include daughter Sylvia Underdown and sisters Eva Day and Mary Regnault. Born January 30, 1882 in Rohrer Illinois, later moved to Clay Center Nebraska before settling near Sidney in 1908. Married Edith Baker in Denver March 28, 1921. she died August 17, 1951. Memorial Hospital and First Methodist Church designated for memorials.

Correction on Vizina sentence in Telegraph story

Deputy County Attorney Don Tedesco stated that Don Vizina 37 of Sidney had not served a prior penitentiary term and the earlier report should be retracted. Vizina was sentenced last week in District Court to one year in the State Penitentiary at Lincoln for forgery.

Egging Road project awarded to Missouri Valley Construction

The county board approved a $56,340 bid by Missouri Valley Construction Co. of Grand Island to hard surface four and a half miles of road south of Gur ley leading east from U S Route 385 to The Egging Co plant. Work to start within 30 days and finish within 45 days.

Fire calls weekend for Sidney department

Sidney Volunteer Fire Department responded to two weekend incidents. A Union Pacific flat car fire Sunday was caused by an overheated journal box. A small grass fire south of town occurred Saturday.

Hottest oil discovery reported in Kimball County

An oil discovery in Kimball County described as the hottest in months by industry observers follows the No. 1 Beranek well drilled by Sundance Oil Co. and Midwest Oil Co. near Mott Field yielding 3,100 feet of 38 gravity oil in a drill stem test. Nearby activity includes Larson Ranch Field near Potter and Cook Field in Cheyenne County with multiple companies active.

Rites For Geo Masse On Wednesday

A 62-year Sidney resident George Masse died after a seven day illness at Memorial Hospital. Services set for 10 am Wednesday at Gehrig and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Paul W. Reimers of Trinity Lutheran officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Masse born December 25 1875 in Nagy Torac Hungary came to Regina Canada in 1904 then Chicago and Sidney. He married Laura Sheckler June 19 1913. Surviving include wife Laura son Earl Masse daughters Helen Hinrichs Mary Davis Hazel Stout Virginia Denton two stepsons two stepdaughters and many grandchildren great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Nebraska official to visit Sidney for State Wheat Show planning

Duane Foote of the University of Nebraska will be in Sidney on Tuesday August 29 to develop plans for the State Wheat Show set for Friday November 3. The meeting is at the Fort Sidney Motor Hotel at 1 30 p.m.

Panhandle Weather Forecast Warns Warm, Dry Outlook

The Panhandle shows fair skies and rising heat with tonight’s lows 55 to 65 and Tuesday's highs near 90. Rain chances stay under five percent. Five day outlook calls for near normal temps Tue through Sat, easing cooler early then warmer late, highs in the 80s and lows in the 50s, with light showers possible midweek.
