Scratched Checks Get Gate Friday
Universal or scratched checks will not be accepted by the Federal Reserve System after Friday, Sept. 1. After that time they will accept as cash items only checks that bear the routing symbol and transit number of the writer's bank coded in distinctive magnetic ink characters. The step is being made so the system can process the large volume of checks it handles more easily. The system processes 90 percent of the nation's checks and in July handled nearly 19 million daily. The uncoded check requires manual processing which lengthens collection time.

Medical Building Started by Sidney Knights of Columbus
The Knights of Columbus in Sidney will erect a one story medium brick medical building on Jackson Street between 9th and 10th Avenues on property owned by the K of C. A $50,000 building permit was issued at Monday night’s city council meeting. Josten Construction Co. will build, with Drs. C. B. Dorwart and L. S. O’Holleran leasing the facility. Construction has begun on some excavation and the builder hopes to have occupancy shortly after the new year. The design includes six examination rooms, two offices, a waiting room, clerical offices, laboratory and x ray, a treatment room, utility room and four restrooms, with outside dimensions about 48 by 62 feet.

Old Pictures To Be Returned By Mail This Week
The Sidney Telegraph reports that most pictures submitted for the centennial edition are being mailed back this week. If not received by next week’s start, material may be bulky or unsuitable for mailing and can be reclaimed at the Telegraph office. Hundreds of items were received and many scrap books and framed pictures could not be mailed due to size or fragility. Copies of the centennial edition remain available at The Telegraph or many newsstands, though supply is limited as the paper reserves copies for permanent files.
