Grand Champion Steer brought $49.50 per hundredweight. steer weighed 940 pounds and was raised by Peggy Ahlschwede, 16, of Gurley. Overall steer and heifer average was $28.07, hogs averaged $30, lambs $26.58. lamb champion Sonja Lee’s lamb sold for $31. Work Starts On New Dorm At Sid ney Business Institute

Beard contest crowns Cheyenne County winner at county fair
Jack Knicely was named overall champion in the Centennial beard contest and will represent Cheyenne County at the state Lincoln event. His beard reached from sideburn to sideburn with a mustache. Other winners included Ron Goad Marv Pelster Clay Radtke in the handsome category. Paul Sullivan won the mustache class with Ken Darling and Lloyd Lockwood following. Driver Sleeps and Crashes Truck Near Sidney
Maxie L. Haynes, 21, of F. E. Warren, traveling east on Highway 30 four miles west of Sidney, fell asleep at the wheel at 5:15 a.m. in a 1963 Air Force pickup. The truck left the road, entered a borrow pit, jumped a driveway embankment, and rested. About $95 damage reported by the Nebraska Safety Patrol.

County Judge Fines Three On Various Assault Charges
In County Court Sidney, a man named William Ely was found guilty of assault and battery and fined $109 for the attack on Charlotte Parks. Charlotte Parks pled guilty to provoking assault by uttering a vile epithet to Gary Ammerman and was fined $19. A second man, Gary Ammerman, faces pending charges of assault with intent to inflict great bodily injury, with a preliminary hearing set for Sept. 6. A separate case saw James Banks plead guilty to assault and received 10 days in jail plus $8 in court costs.

Old Settlers Day plans loom in Lodgepole parade and events
The 43rd annual Old Settlers Reunion in Lodgepole is planned for Labor Day September 4. Honored couple Mr and Mrs A A Fenske of Sunol will be crowned King and Queen and ride in a parade featuring floats wagons and horses. A noon barbecue follows with Lions Club help, then main program crownings speeches and a motorcycle race. U S cattle imports fell in June with Mexico at 14 210 head down 37 percent from a year earlier and Canada at 16 763 head down 38 percent. Total June imports were 30 973 head, down 37 percent, shaping six month totals to 336 281 head, down 37 percent from last year. Vizina Draws One Year Term In Lincoln Penitentiary
Don Vizina 37 of Sidney was sentenced in District Court to one year in the state penitentiary at Lincoln for forgery. He was on parole at the time for writing no fund checks and had one prior penitentiary term. He allegedly wrote a $20 check on a Sidney National Bank form, signing H. S. Vizina as payer and himself as payee.
