In the Panhandle during Centennial Week western Nebraska reports 24 new locations. Cheyenne County sees a Signet Operation strike at No. 1 Nelson with a drill stem test showing oil, and Ohio Oil Co. advances to Hendricks No. 1 after moving to a new location. Kimball County records a new sand discovery south west of Kimball by Nebraska Drillers at No. 3 Evertson, with promising oil flow, while several other wells produce or are drilled in nearby fields.

Stubble Fire Burns 25 Acres Near Brownson Farm
Firefighters were sent early to a grass and stubble blaze about nine miles northwest of Brownson on the Marion Mohatt farm. Lightning started the fire which burned an estimated 25 acres. No damage was reported. The flames were reported under control around 5:25 am.

A new truck tire and wheel valued at about $110 were stolen from a parked truck owned by Ray O'Dell of Sidney. The theft occurred Wednesday night or early Thursday morning about one and one half miles east of Sidney. It was the second such incident in a week.

Burlington Railroad seeks to discontinue two Lincoln Alliance trains
The Burlington Railroad plans to ask the Nebraska Railway Commission to discontinue trains 41 and 44 between Lincoln and Alliance. The Sunday runs were halted two years ago and passenger traffic is light with a last year loss around 72000 dollars. If approved, one daily passenger train would remain and mail express duties would shift to other trains and truck transport.

Lodgepole Woman Injured In 2 Car Mishap At Viaduct
A Lodgepole woman sustained neck injuries in a two car collision at the viaduct east of Sidney early Thursday. Police said a westbound car paused to yield to eastbound traffic, a following car hit the motionless vehicle, and a third car struck rear. Mrs. Dykman was treated at Sidney Memorial Hospital in satisfactory condition and expected to be released. Estimated damage to each vehicle was about $700.

The U S Senate approved Lea M. Gorman as Sidney Postmaster after the resignation of Don Gillham who served since July 1957.
