Two teen girls win champion 4-H calves at Cheyenne Co fair

Peggy Ahlschwede sixteen of Gurley won Grand Champion Hereford steer weighing 940 pounds named Again. Sharon Houser thirteen of Lodgepole took Reserve Grand Champion with Red Baron at 960 pounds. Both champions came from Arthur McMillan and Sons herd of Sidney. Several other Herefords and Angus cross animals were shown by local 4-H youths including Duane Anderson Joe Henke Sandy Houser Forrest Anderson Debbi Livingston Susan Leuhrs Dan Kastens Sam Houser Beverly Theis and Rick Christensen.

Fraass Entered Kokjer Car Stolen Case in Lodge Pole

Sheriff investigates a fourth break-in at Fraass Sundries Lodge Pole with entry via rear window. A watch and purse are among stolen items from Fraass Sundries, while a white 1967 Chevrolet Impala Coupe with blue interior at Kokjer Chevrolet in Sidney is reported stolen Friday or Saturday night. Jumper wires found on another car.

Decker Pays 49 50 For Steer Champion

Bob Decker of Decker's Market bought the grand champion steer at the Cheyenne County Fair for 49.50 per hundred. The auction began shortly after one o'clock and continued as The Sidney Telegraph prepared this edition. A full sellers and prices list will appear in The Telegraph along with other fair winners and event results. Exhibits showed high quality factors, contributing to the fair's success.

Sidney’s 47 Coldest Reading In U S Monday

Sidney was the coldest spot in the nation Monday morning with 47. A weak cold front to the north moved across the state bringing showers and a hint of autumn. Readings rose to 85 to 95 today as the county fair and centennial celebration continue under mostly clear skies.

Corn Loan Rate To Be Increased In 1967

The Agriculture Department said county price support rates for 1967 crop corn will rise by two cents a bushel from the usual levels. Nationally the average under the stabilization program stands at $1.05 a bushel, with county rates adjusted by proximity to major markets, higher where markets are nearer.

Tax Figures Nearly Ready for Cheyenne County Levies

Cheyenne County officials expect official tax levies for the coming year to be calculated this week after receiving potential valuation figures from County Assessor Ed Swanson. Delays came from a statewide Board of Equalization hearing affecting 91 counties. several western Nebraska counties have already announced high levies, with Hemmingford at 143.81 mills and Alliance at 103.09 mills, and localities anticipate little change from the elimination of the state property tax.

Cheyenne County marked five of the busiest days in a century with a 90 unit parade culminating in a noon governor speech at Fort Sidney. Gov Norbert Tiemann urged industry growth and a regional highway planning meeting. Merle Bobo tallies parade crowds near 20,000. the event featured a donkey drawn carriage with the governor and mayor. Johnny Ringo show drew about 2,000. a five day fair packed the county grounds with exhibits and observers.

Resolution Approves Wheat Withholding Plan in Nebraska
