Jim Booth 76, pioneer Cheyenne County resident and 1964 Old Settlers king, recalls a life spanning farming, construction, and munitions work. Born to Firth Booth Sr. near Sunol, he helped shape Sundl town history with multi generation ties to New man, Booth, and Dickson families. He retired from Sioux Army Depot employment in 1958 and remains active as a cook, gardener, and historian.

Weyerts Pioneer Is Named Queen Of Old Settlers
Marie Bauer of Chappell, 77, was named Queen of the 1964 Old Settlers celebration at Lodgepole. Born Marie Folkerts in Golden, Illinois, in 1885, she moved to Weyerts area in 1886 with her family and helped run the Weyerts store and post office. She recalls grasshoppers, drought, hard winters, and early mail deliveries by horse and buggy.

Dirk G. Miller, 76, native of Weyerts Community, died Sunday in Garden City California after a brief illness. Remains to be shipped to Sidney for Weyerts Church funeral. Arrangements by The Craig Mortuary. He retired from farming after moving to California in 1947. Survivors include Harold Miller of Sidney, Mrs LaVerta Brown of Akron, a sister Mrs Mary Jurgens of Sidney, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren. One son died in 1937.

Blinding Dust Causes Upset in Sidney County Crash
A 1955 Cadillac driven by Charles L. Lafler 38 of Sidney veered off a county road four miles south of Sidney at 8 30 p m Friday when dust blinded the driver. The car struck a ditch and an REA power pole, causing $175 to the car and $25 to the pole with no injuries reported.

Cattle Shipment From Sioux Depot To Eastern Buyers
About two thousand head of cattle are moved from the Sioux Army Depot range to the Sidney Livestock Sales Pavilion. Sixty loads will be sent by rail and truck to eastern feeders this week for fattening before market. Pavilion manager Dave Truss calls it the biggest single transaction since opening the sale pavilion. Cattle are expected to head east by Tuesday night, with a strong demand noted from eastern feeders. Last week’s sale reflected improved cattle market conditions and several hundred head were sold for eastern shipment.
