Ray N. Tsuruda an Engineering Technician at Sioux Army Depot leaves for Sacramento Army Depot. A veteran, he arrived in 1944 with wife Sami and three sons Marshall Gary and Roger. Active in Boy Scouts Junior League Baseball and School District No 166, he and Sumi have long led community youth efforts and earned depot Community Service Awards.

Promotional Work Is Getting Under Way On I-80
The interstate promotion for I-80 through Nebraska and Wyoming has begun with meetings in towns along the route. Willard Murfin of Cheyenne outlined plans for a financing association, and Sidney Chamber of Commerce leaders urged early efforts to boost I-80 amid competition from Route 66 and other east-west routes. President E R Jimerson noted local support and said Sidney should join the campaign, even though I-80 may reach the area in five to six years.

Crop Station Survey Discussed At Sioux Army Depot

MITCHELL Nebraska LIVESTREAM University leader says long term gains from bench terraces in western Nebraska irrigated areas justify the 150 per acre cost. Lionel Harris reports outstanding results at Scotts Bluff Experiment Station with irrigation efficiency up from 50 to 80 percent erosion elimination alfalfa yields of six to seven tons per acre and a 1963 corn yield of 186 bushels per acre.

Sidney volunteer firemen elect new VP and set banquet
Norman Pete Sharp, president of the Sidney Volunteer Fire Dept, was elected Tuesday night to be the new vice president of the North Platte Valley Volunteer Firemen's Assn. Vic Marker of Bayard was named president at the Kimball Fire Hall meeting. Sidney attendees included Chief Harvey Vizina and several members. The annual awards banquet is planned for Saturday, Sept. 19 at Mitchell, with trophies for the recent tournament, won by Sidney, to be awarded.

Wheat program signup starts Monday in Cheyenne County
Signup for the 1965 wheat program begins Monday August 24 at the Cheyenne County ASC office and continues about five weeks. Allotments were mailed earlier. The program offers price support loans and certificates with new provisions including substitution of wheat for feed grains, oats base, and storing excess under bond.

County Farm Income Tops U S Figure
Cheyenne County farms led national earnings with 16 171 000 gross receipts and 5 390 per capita, higher than U S and Nebraska averages. Crops yielded 72 percent of income, livestock and dairy 28 percent, amid rising costs and lower crop and cattle prices nationwide.

The crop outlook favors irrigated farming with moisture in demand for summer fallowed land to prepare for wheat planting in about two weeks. Millet is being harvested while other crops suffer from lack of rain. A killing frost date is uncertain. 1962 saw Sept 8, last year late October.
Minister's Car Damaged In Rear End Collision
A rear end collision occurred on Sidney streets at 13th and Rose Wednesday afternoon. At 4:51 p.m. Rev. K. O. Zavadil, 68, of Lincoln and Wayne R. Fischer, 18, of Sidney, were involved. Zavadil’s southbound car was slowing for the intersection when Fischer’s vehicle struck from behind.
