Farmers Watching Mercury In August
Farmers survey cooling August mornings as the thermometer drops toward 50s at Sidney, with autumn in the air. Crop maturity is behind due to a cool wet early summer, delaying fall harvest. a late frost could threaten the entire acreage. Millet plantings lag, feed grains rise with livestock needs, and wheat growers ready machinery for 1968 winter crop with seeding peaking mid September. Federal payments loom, and barley base changes may free some acres, though overall plantings unlikely to rise much.
