Edgar Vantassel, associate meteorologist at Kansas City, is assigned to lead the new weather forecasting station at Scottsbluff. The six person crew will speed forecast distribution for blizzards in the high plains, following a precedent set by a similar station at Goodland after last November’s disaster in western Nebraska and Kansas. Former Sidney resident Lloyd Mann died in North Platte after more than two years illness. Funeral services are set for 6 p.m. CST tonight at North Platte. Mann was raised in Sidney, married here to Alice Stuht, and later lived in Grand Island before moving to North Platte. He operated a dray and ice business in Sidney. Survivors include his wife, one daughter Katherine Cohagen, and a sister Mrs Leo Osborn. Brother Louis Mann and nephew Forrest Planck also survive.

Midget Car Racer Howard Frye Dies From Injuries
Howard Frye 30 of Mitchell Nebraska died in a local hospital Monday from injuries suffered in a midget auto race accident at the Cheyenne County Fair Saturday. Frye was thrown when his car struck a hay bale and rolled three times. He leaves parents Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Frye and one sister Mrs. Ralph Petzold. Burial will be in Denver after services in Mitchell. Frye, a top regional racer, was among ten drivers from the North Platte Valley at the two day fair meet.
